Two Killed in Carroll County Plane Crash

(WESTMINSTER, MD) – Two people are pronounced deceased this morning when a small plane crashed soon after take-off from a private air strip in Carroll County.

Emergency service responders pronounced the pilot and the passenger of a 2006 Ultralight Quicksilver single engine plane, deceased after their plane crashed shortly before 11:00 a.m. today. The identities of the two victims are being withheld, pending next of kin notification.

Just before 11:00 a.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barrack were dispatched to the 1200-block of Baugher Rd, Westminster, Md., for the report of a plane crash. Responding fire and rescue personnel from the Carroll County Fire Department were on the scene as troopers arrived. The single-engine plane was located in an open field. The pilot and one passenger were the only people on-board the plane.

Preliminary information from investigators indicates the plane had just taken off from a private airstrip. The crash is said to have occurred not far from the airstrip.

State Police investigators are on the scene gathering additional information. An update will be issued later today when identities are confirmed and further details are available. Federal aviation officials have been notified of the crash.

Maryland State Police and deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Allied agencies assisted with securing the scene.

The Maryland State Police will not speculate on the cause of the crash. The cause of the crash will be investigated and determined by federal authorities.
