Youth Fishing Derby offers free family fun June 2

SALISBURY, Md. – The pond at the Salisbury City Park will be packed with fish for children to catch during Wicomico Recreation’s annual Youth Fishing Derby.

This year’s Fishing Derby, a free event, is set for Saturday, June 2, at the Salisbury City Park. Registration opens at 8 a.m., with fishing from 9-11 a.m. Food and drinks will be provided for youth participants after that, and there will also be trophies awarded in different categories.

The Fishing Derby is for boys and girls ages 15 and younger, and participants should bring their own bait and rods. The Department of Natural Resources will add about 500 blue gills to the pond’s catfish, largemouth bass, perch and carp.

“With more fish than usual in the pond, see what your kids can catch at the Youth Fishing Derby,” said Vanessa Junkin, assistant director of marketing and public relations for Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism. “It’s also a great opportunity to spend time with the family outdoors.”
