The Colonials has been the mascot at George Washington University for almost 100 years, but now a student at the college is trying to banish it from campus because it is “offensive” to “international students who have experienced the effects of colonialism.”
The student-led newspaper GW Hatchet (not the focus of any protest thus far) reported:
Sophomore Rachel Yakobashvili said she and two other students launched the first petition ever on the Student Association’s advocacy website GW Voice last week to encourage the University to consider new mascot options, like “Hippos,” “Revolutionaries” or “Riverhorses.”

The name of the school is: George Washington University.
POTUS Washington was a founder of the original "Colonies" hence, the word, Colonial.
Geez
George had wood false teeth, which was disrespectful to those with poor or no dental plans. And he chopped down a cherry tree which was despoiling Mother Earth. And littering by throwing a coin across the river. Why stop with the mascot? Jettison this unruly despoiler from the name of the school.

Why do you talk about GWU, but make no mention of SU getting a new President?

Replace it with a rainbow colored snowflake.
All college mascots should be puppies!
Well, not Pit Bull puppies.
Or German Shepard ones.
Or Dobermans.
No Rottweiler ones, either, or English Bulldogs...
