Veteran's Flag Pole Must Be Removed, HOA Tells Him

An Ohio Air Force veteran who was asked to remove his flag pole by his subdivision’s homeowner’s association because it didn’t meet the “community’s standards” was outraged that he would be asked to do so.

Wayne Marchant said he was given verbal permission by the HOA to install the pole after moving into the subdivision nine years ago, but received a letter last Friday asking him to remove or modify the pole to comply with regulations, WLWT reported.

Another resident with a flagpole got a similar letter.

“As a veteran, I wouldn’t think to erect a flagpole and fly the American flag would be something that I have to get permission to do,” Marchant told WLWT.

Beat down the HOA President. Make their life hellish misery on a regular basis. Cut your grass at 4 A.M. chainsaw firewood at midnight, cut a sheet of plywood into 2” squares with a circular saw at 2 A.M. stop before the police get there. They will refuse to do anything anyway. Lol
We call it negotiating with liberals.

I would never buy property that was governed by an HOA. Nobody is going to tell me what I can and can't do on my own property.

The State of MD and county will!

There are many things that you can't do on your property. No raping, no illegal drugs, no kiddnapping,no multiple wives, just to name a few. So the fact remains that you are wrong! Somebody IS GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT YOU CAN'T DO ON YOUR PROPERTY.

Never move into an HOA neighborhood. The only person who has the right to govern what can or can't be done on a property is the one who is making the payments on it.

These HOA people are the same ones who are kneeling during the National Anthem...

If you live in an area with an HOA, you follow the rules. This guy isn't special. He's being asked to follow the rules everyone else has to follow. He is not being punished or persecuted.

The length of time in which he has been in violation of the rules is irrelevant to the fact that he is in violation of the rules.

He is not being asked to remove it... only being asked to modify it to comply with regulations. As it seems flags are ABSOLUTELY allowed to be displayed, as long as they are affixed to flag poles attached to the house.

So this ISN'T a story about anti-patriotism, or about picking on vet. It's about a guy who won't abide by the same rules as everyone else, and thinks he is special.

I'd put a 30' flag pole on the roof. There it is attached to the house!

Anon 12:01 - I don't need to rape, kidnap, do illegal drugs or have multiple wives, so I think I will continue to do whatever I choose on my own property! Seriously? SMH

Actually.....it’s not even your property. You technically own the right to lease the the land you’ve purchased from the US government but you will never own the land your house is built on outright.
Google Eminent Domain.

Same goes for a lot of home improvements such as building a deck, adding electric to an outdoor shed. Who are these people who think they can do whatever they want on their property?!

This is why I live in the country
No neighbors
Peace and quite
Love it

I love my place, I think I'll stay. You people are ignorant and will comment just about anything to make yourselves right. My comment was about HOA's and how I choose not to purchase property that is governed by an HOA so I don't have to follow someone elses rules when it comes to managing my own property. You all take things to such extremes. My comment had nothing to do with putting in a well, septic or the government enforcing eminent domain. I was a Property Manager for Fairwinds in Annapolis that was a huge condo complex. I would never live anywhere that a group of people can rule over basic decisions that any homeowner should be able to make for themselves. Pick on someone who cares what you think. Bite me.
