Confederate statues fallout: House removes $250,000 for Memphis from budget

House lawmakers on Tuesday approved a last-minute amendment to remove $250,000 allocated to the city of Memphis as punishment for the removal of Confederate monuments.

The amendment, which was approved with a 56-31 vote, was introduced as a result of Memphis officials’ decision to remove two controversial statues on public property last year.

After being denied a waiver by the state Historical Commission to remove the statues, Memphis sold two public parks in December to a nonprofit, which then removed statues of Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

Consequences is not a word in the millennial vernacular. It also looks like the democrats needed a reminder. Consequences. This is the best news I've heard all day. Bedford Forrest was an awful person, I get it. Breaking the law should apply to everyone, and that's what they did. 250,000 penalty? Awesome! Money talks. They will think twice about using tax payer money and desecrating monuments versus moronic social justice. A good model for others who are thinking of doing the same.

It's a rare thing for consequences to be handed out but I believe it should be more then a fine to manipulate the situation to get your way regardless of others is what's wrong ask over this country and thankfully some are trying to change it

In my opinion President Roosevelt predicted the future and saw what today would be like in his awesome speech in 1916 "America for Americans"....if you are not familiar take a second outta your day look it up and read it.....I've been thinking about printing out as many copies I can and just handing them out!!!!
