Army May Extend Basic Training, Introduce New Fitness Regime

Senior U.S. Army leaders are pushing a campaign to enhance recruiting, toughen physical fitness training and extend Basic Combat Training to prepare soldiers for a major future conflict.

Secretary of the Army Mark Esper spoke Monday at the Association of the United States Army's Global Force Symposium about his vision for the Army of 2028 that calls for a larger, more physically fit force.

"To meet the challenges of 2028 and beyond, the total Army must grow," Esper said. "A decade from now, we need an active component above 500,000 soldiers with associated growth in the Guard and Reserve."

The Army requested 4,000 soldiers be added to the active force as part of the proposed fiscal 2019 budget. The increase would boost the active-duty ranks from 483,500 to 487,500.

The Army must focus on "recruiting and retaining high-quality, physically fit, mentally tough soldiers who will deploy and fight and win decisively on any future battlefield," he said.

They already have 2 weeks of BS called "Sensitivity Training", seriously? I thought they were supposed to be training killers, not sensitive snowflakes.

My son said Basic was a joke. Very easy for anyone who was remotely physically fit and very hard for 90% of the pansies that enlisted.
He was one of the best and now his talents are being wasted.
So, if the Army wants the best, they will have to change the way they 'reward' the best talent. otherwise, why would ANYONE want to join if they treat you like idiots once you're there. Just like most government agencies: they reward inefficiency and incompetence. It's amazing we can win ANY wars with the ineptitude that many officers espouse.

There is more to boot than just the physical aspect of it. There is also the mental part. They tear you down to the core and build you back the way they want you to be and perform.

I had hung around my brother a lot and on a couple of USMC bases, so I already knew a little bit of what to expect. The drill sergeants even told us to keep a sense of humor. You will also be in the best shape of your life when you complete basic, or should I say IF you complete basic?

There were wimps back then also. Even some mexicans and others who could barely speak English back then as well. I think EVERY American should have to go in the military and serve at least two years. Aside from the brain-washing and other things you would have to endure and successfully complete, it would actually benefit you, our government, and society at large.

If Basic gets too hard for the snowflakes they can use their "Timeout" cards and go to the cuddle room to color in books and hold fluffy stuffed animals.

Unfortunately, you are correct.

The last time we won a war was World War II. Since 1945, America has intervened in conflicts in which it dubbed them as “police actions”, since it did not declare war. The U.S. succeeded in halting North Korea’s and Chinese advance towards conquering South Korea. The U.S. failed to prevent the North Vietnamese from conquering South Vietnam, which was unified following the end of the Vietnam War. The U.S. succeeded in rescuing American students in Grenada. The U.S. succeeded in deposing Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega in 1989 and restored Panama into a democracy. The U.S. liberated Kuwait from Iraq and succeeded halting genocide in the Balkan Wars. The U.S. later invaded Afghanistan after 9/11 and later invaded Iraq which deposed Saddam Hussein from power. The U.S. also intervened in Libya which deposed Qaddafi and intervened to stop the ISIS, which is still ongoing to this day.

The armed forces of the New PC America are a joke, we can't even secure our borders, much less win a war.
Then you get a President that pardons Traitors, and puts up with POW traitors.

What we really need is another "PATTON" to lead the military.

the army has always been the service of last resort, they have always accepted everyone no matter how fat or how mentally defective the person is, the army has ALWAYS accepted anyone who wanted to join.
