BERLIN – June Moreau’s horses know her schedule.
Each and every morning she finds the two mares, Sadie and Chrissy, waiting for her as she heads out to feed them just before 7 a.m.
When she didn’t see them Monday morning, she knew right away something was wrong. Nevertheless, her heart sank when she found the pair deep in the woods on her 42-acre property. Sadie was submerged in a tax ditch, stuck in mud nearly up to her neck, as Chrissy stood nearby.
“That silt settles and it’s like quicksand,” she said, describing the array of ditches and culverts surrounding the Timmonstown Branch. “I knew we were going to have to put her down.”

A beautiful CHRISTmas miracle! Thank the Lord for inspiring her wonderful neighbors and rescue crew.
Amen!
Love people who show so much compassion towards helpless animals. God Bless You all!!!! What a Christmas miracle!
No miracle, 70+ years old doesn't need large animals! Good thing neighbors were there. She needs some different fencing if she keeps the horses. She has an obligation for animal welfare.
Fencing is not the only solution. The Tax Ditches are not cared for properly unless you are a large Farmer. I know my property in Parsonsburg area has not been cut in 10 years or more on my side but the Farmers side is like your front yard. They will not let me cut the ditch banks that I made for drainage because it drains into the Tax Ditch and they will not cut it. Behind Fruitland they have not cut that Tax ditch in over 3 years. I have complained to the State and I should have been talking to a brick wall since nothing has been done. I pay the Tax Ditch Tax and do not get the related work completed. The Tax Ditch Tax is a scam. It only pays the Farmer to clean their ditches.
Thankful all is Well!!
1256 Yeah, there's always one. Glad you felt the need to be that person. I am sure you feel better now that you have shown us all how righteous and tough minded you are.
