Look, you are either interested in an education or you're not. A 2.0 grade average means you really aren't interested, period. Most students with such a low grade average do NOT remain in school and in fact drop out. This is a waste of taxpayer money.
Raising the grade average to 2.5 gives high school students an incentive to work that much harder. Keep in mind, all of you, Wor-Wic goes through MANY different channels for alternative funding before FREE college is available. Most believe just anyone can get a free education and that just isn't true at all. Most do not! Wor-Wic provides help in assisting many interested students apply for all kinds of funding/opportunities they did no know were available.
Starting the program at 2.0 was a great start but I agree with the County Council in raising it to 2.5.

I had to keep a 3.5 average to keep my scholarship.
You tell 'em Joe. Most of those I went with that fell in this category said Im just going to appease my parents. No dedication whatsoever.
Its not what you do in college. Its what you do when you get out. There isn't a GPA on any diploma.
we need to invest in the best not the under average ! If we do not do that this entire thing will be a big fat waste of money.

2.5 is MORE reasonable in today's environment than back in the 60's/70's/80's - when actual textbooks were available for each/every student and used at home to do homework!!!!!
It is up to the individual to prepare and finance their own education. There are many trades jobs that give a good living, while many degree career's do not. The county needs to spend our taxes wisely and not use the excuse this is to in-hence our future. I did watch the meeting on Pac 14 reference this with WorWic President Hoy.

12:30, Every job I applied for after college wanted a final transcript with my cumulative GPA.
I’m sure it was vital information for your prospective employer. Had to make sure you knew exactly when the fries were done.
This is such a waste of taxpayers money.
They'll never get it pd back, if the person
does get through one of the Courses, most
likely they will have to leave the County
to find work, thus no taxes being put back
in the Coummunity.
I hope/pray for the taxpayers of this County
our County Council will have the sense not
to be involved.
It's a shame Henson and Perdue endowed these schools the way they did. Their money could have better served the community and been a real Legacy.
Not to worry.. a 2.0 will not get past the first few months..
I know quite a few people with degrees in “art” and “psychology” who are doing nothing more than waiting tables at local restaurants. They don’t have the common sense of a stick but they sure are “book smart”.
Sorry to hurt your feelings because I went to college. “The times are a changin.” Maybe you will understand that.
Councilman Kilmer and Councilman Dodd asked Ray Hoy some good questions and he seemed to be perturbed, but guess what, they are responsible for looking out for our tax dollars. Kudos to both of them.
As a previous employee I can tell you that there are a lot of students there who can't make it through the basic math and English classes that are required. It is tough watching the students who really want to succeed but can't do the basics. Despite tutoring and resources they still struggle and it is hard to see them become so defeated.
There are of course students who shouldn't even walk through those doors. But they generally don't last two weeks into the semester. Once realization hits that they actually have to show up and do the work they are done.
