WBOC Bless Our Children Already?

I have to start with this, "WBOC Journalists"? That is a mistake, right?

This morning WBOC, (Nov. 13th) kicked off their Bless Our Children campaign, along with their Rising Tide Campaign collecting jackets for children.

Here at SBYNews, WE make the donations through our advertising revenue. It's called "Paying It Forward". We don't slam you every chance we get to ask YOU for money and then take credit like WBOC does with YOUR money.

Interesting, no one seems to ever hear what they do with all that money, year after year. Maybe this year they'll actually show YOU what they did with it.

I wouldn't know about this because I now watch WMDT in the mornings and abc news in the evenings. Goodbye WBOC!

They aren't journalists. They are teleprompter readers.

Just the fact that they are having these fundraisers shows there are problems in our community that are not being reported like the homelessness, the working poor, meaning those working full time and not making enough to afford rent, so they live in shelters like Halo, or a cheap motel.
There is one in Delmar where school kids are picked up and and dropped off each morning.
Our high employment problems, and exploding drug and resulting crime not only in Salisbury, but all over Delmarva. And yet, they have these feel good fundraisers and then pat themselves on the back for helping the community!
Has anyone investigated this charity to make sure every cent is going to the charities and families they are promoting to support?
Tired of their lack of honest reporting, and as a result, I have completely stopped watching their propaganda.

WBOC is getting to be a joke.
All they are good for is asking the hard working people for numerous types of donations. And that captain willey is a joke. I could give a S--- that Johnny Janosik has anything to do with wboc. I love helping those that are really in need, but I work also to take care of my own bills and family. I know of people that choose not to do any kind of work, because they are constantly given so many handouts. Some people, not all, probably do better than I do. After taxes are taken out of my paycheck, there isn't a whole lot I get to work with. I will always try to help a person that is truly in need of help, but it is very hard to tell who is and who isn't.

I said it last year and I'll repeat it again, there are many organizations giving more gifts to GENERATIONS of welfare recipients then we gift to our own children, allow me to explain.

There is no organization that monitors who gets what. For example, let's say the Jones family with four children sign up for these free gifts. There's nothing stopping them from signing up with WBOC, the Salvation Army, The Salisbury Police, WCSO, Salisbury Fire Department, Church's, Toys For Tots and the list goes on and on.

You might say these unfortunate children/families get thousands of dollars worth of gifts and don't think for a second this doesn't happen.

Nothing is more rewarding then getting a JOB and providing for your own Family. They say the Eastern Shore is extremely giving and we are. However, it's time to put on your big boy pants and stop being politically/liberal correct. If you know of a Family truly in need, make your own donation and stop relying on the above organizations to do it for you.

Go back to my article January 1, 2017 and read what I stated back then. http://sbynews.blogspot.com/2017/01/i-know-bah-humbug.html That should spell it all out for you.

Let's help those family's who are truly in need, like the working poor or those families who are working but struggling to make ends meet. Why give and incentive those who get something for nothing? Why reward laziness and bad behavior? It's true when they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions!

Joe - having worked for one of the organizations you listed, I can verify that there is triple dipping and more by many so-called "needy" people. They also arrive in late model and often expensive vehicles wearing lots of gold chains and bracelets to pick up their "loot". The lack of a good process among the various organizations to see that there isn't abuse of the public's generous donations and the fact that I would like to be sure that anything I am able to give goes to someone who truly needs it, I no longer support any of these organizations. People need to open their eyes. The Christmas abuse isn't the only time. Kids end up with 3 and 4 backpacks at the start of school by going from place to place. Sad, but true. The truly needed usually aren't part of the system and have no clue have to access it, let alone abuse it.

When my kids were little, both my wife and I worked and I can tell you that after paying the Mortgage, Daycare, and general hold hold expenses, there was little left over for Christmas presents. We struggled and sacrificed for them to have a Christmas and with the help and generosity of their grandparents and family, they always had a Christmas.

There was no Agency out there to help us, and we wouldn't have gone to them anyway, because we have our pride. The problem is, there are those out there who expect handouts and even demand them. Maybe they should not be having so many kids, if they can't afford to take care of them. All this is doing is enabling a dependent class of people that has continued to go on for generations.

I will only support organizations that help animals,

I remember reading that article and agreeing with it. I am quite stingy when it comes to donations anymore. Because of scams I no longer donate over the phone. I go out of my way to keep from passing Salvation Army kettles. I say "No thanks, not today" at checkout lanes. I am glad charities brag about donations received. That proves they do not need my piddly amount and I do not have a guilty feeling for not contributing. I do contribute to causes where I feel the need is justified.

Now with that said - your 1/17 posting Joe, list multiple Charities, while this post today is only about how WBOC is NOT doing it YOUR way. The 1/17 is much better in getting your point across.

I will in a sense defend WBOC. WBOC has 2 forms on their web-site for "Bless Our Children" - (and has for years) one is to make a donation. The other one is a form for Non-Profits to request funding. Bless Our Children distributes funds to non-profit organizations on the Delmarva Peninsula. For a non-profit organization to be considered as a Bless Our Children recipient an application must be submitted. You must also fax a copy of your IRS form. Bless Our Children does not distribute funds or gifts directly to individuals or families.

You correctly hope that a child or family is not on the list of every Non-Profit Bless Our Children contributes to. How best could that problem be solved?

It would be appropriate to learn just where that money goes, how much is kept for station production and administrative fees, if any, and how many children are served.

Due to declining ad sales they have to make money somehow. What a better way than start their charity early. Think of all the tax deductions they’ll get. WBOC might even get a fat refund this year if locals are foolish enough to partake in their charity drive.

Give to your local SPCA instead. It's the right thing to do.

All of this holiday stuff is out of hand. It starts in September, or really July with Christmas in July in stores. 2 months of Christmas movies on Hallmark Channel so I can't watch Last man Standing reruns.
It's not just BOC., it's all over the country.
Do We need a law on when Christmas can start????????? I'm beginning to think so.
When I was a kid, It started Thanksgiving weekend, and not a day earlier. No one talked about Christmas till after Thanksgiving. it was much more peaceful and relaxing also.
It's To the point now, when I'm just glad when it is over and done till July anyway.

I agree 100% they used to come to our Church door when we were having meetings wanting $ for food, gas for the car,for children's prescriptions, anything they thought would get a hand out. They didn't want a grocery card with a limit, a gas card, coupons off prescriptions, only cash. And so do the many pan handlers on the street just ask them ,try it one time offer them some house work to do, yard work, paint, any real work they will turn you down. You can't even go get them fast food and take it to them they are offended it's not what I want cash man cash that's all! One time they needed a room to stay so a Pastor and I took a man to a motel went in and paid his room for the nite, then he asked if we would take him out for a nice steak dinner!

WBOC must be running out of working capital. Oh well. Don't be a sucker. If you want to donate, donate directly to reputable charities. Quit lining the Draper family pockets.

I WOULD LOVE TO READ THE COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE WHO DISPISE WBOC.
THEIR MOTTO IS SERVING DELMARVA. IF THATS TRUE THEN WHY DON'T WE HEAR STORIES ABOUT DELMARVA.TODAY FOR EXAMPLE.....WE STARTED OUT IN NEW YORK,THEN WE WENT TO CALIFORNIA THEN TEXAS.NOT A WORD ABOUT THE EASTERN SHORE.PEOPLE BITCH ABOUT BALTIMORE BEING SO CRIME RIDDEN,BUT YOU CAN BET YOUR BIPPY THEY REPORT EVERYTHING GOING ON IN BALTIMORE FIRST. THERE IS ENOUGH CRIME GOING ON IN OCEAN CITY TO REPORT TO TAKE UP DAN SATTERFIELD'S WRONG WEATHER TIME.
