Six-Phase, $10M Delmar School Renovation Plan Moves Ahead

SALISBURY – Delmar Elementary School will receive improvements to its building after design and construction documents were approved by the Wicomico County Board of Education this month.

The facility, which was constructed in 1978, will undergo renovations to include a new HVAC system, fire alarm, sprinkler system, lighting, ceilings, walls, doors, elevator, front entrance, handicap-accessible restrooms and improvements to the administration suite, according to Paul Butler, director of communications for Wicomico County Public Schools.

The school will undergo the renovations in six phases over the course of two years.

In a Board of Education meeting two weeks ago, Facilities Planner Matt Auchey said the approved drawings will be submitted to the state in order to request funding.

Yet they couldn't do this with Bennett or Westside? Seems like majority "minority" receive special treatment again

Here are 2 serious conflicting statements here. Statement #1 says the School will receive improvements and statement #2 says it hasn't been approved yet. So is it this newspaper that is wrong or is the BOE misleading people into thinking the Delmar Elementary School will receive a $10 Million Dollar renovation that hasn't been approved by the state or the County. Is this another attempt from the Wicomico County Board of Education to build up the hopes of parents and then leave the county executive and the county council hanging again like they did with Bennett High School, Bennett Middle School and West Salisbury Elementary School? I smell a rat again!

1) "Delmar Elementary School will receive improvements to its building after design and construction documents were approved by the Wicomico County Board of Education this month."

2) "Board member Ronald Willey clarified that the timeline will depend on the state and county’s approval."

I hope the county executive denies the funding for this and tells them to take it from their $300,000 twenty year lease from their new Central Office store front behind Lowes.

2:08PM, PLEASE Delmar Elementary has been neglected for nearly 15 years while Salisbury schools get all of the money! (Same with Mardela)

Delmar School is already included in Culver Budget. The only reasons the other schools weren't renovated was because they didn't have AC in the buildings.

Well Non White Students make up 55% of the enrollment in county schools.

Moved Where? Delmar MD?? If so your math is very wrong... 33% of county population is 34k people. About the size of The Corporate Limits Of Salisbury. Delmar has about 3k residents. Please get Realistic.

West side needed a new school just like Glen avenue and Beaver run does too

Delmar elementary looks newer than glen avenue

All the salisbury schools? Have you seen Wi-Hi?

No wonder my taxes went up 100 dollars. I went there before the new construction. No AC outside cottages and the gym, cafeteria and auditorium were a shared space with roll out folding tables. LOL and it was a Fallout shelter to boot.

3:40. Maybe in the outside but have you actually been inside?

West side Intermediate isn't new enough for you??

The deteriorating schools in the county are mainly glen avenue and Beaver Run. Glen Avenue has Portable AC Units in its windows and also there is no classroom doors...

Worth noting we have a new Super and a number of recent additions to the BOE since JMB and BMS plans were approved. Let's see what happens.

2:54 PM PLEASE!! Who neglected it?? Oh that's right. The Wicomico County Board of Education has been neglecting their schools so that they will run down and have to be replaced.

Since you knew they have been neglected for 15 years then why didn't you speak out then??

The big question is why are they deteriorating?? WTF is letting our schools get run down?? This is criminal and should be stopped. Even the Democrat Comptroller said the schools need to start being taken care of.

Do you let your house that you own deteriorate?? HELL NO!!

Someone is responsible for this deterioration and they need to be locked up!

The WCBOE under the new Superintendent added a new Communications Director who is Paul Butler?? He is doing exactly the same thing that Tracy Sahler was doing and she is still on the pay roll.

There is a new Assistant Superintendent position which is for a non teaching degreed employee. A CPA is now an Assistant Superintendent.
