Hey Jake, Are You Awake?

By Thornton Crowe

Just when you thought we'd have a break from Idiot Island, along comes another email featuring a retort so filled with stupidity, it can't be ignored. How can Salisbury Mayor Jake Day really expect anyone to take him seriously when reality runs drastically counter to his day dreamin'?

Many Salisburians are hurting - some have been looking for gainful employment for years, not months. We are not talking part-time, retail or restaurant work, but jobs with benefits and career tracks a person can make a long-term commitment.

More and more, young adults are forced to leave the area because of the job market void but also when they do procure a job, the pay is atrocious. Some local employers don't want to pay $15.00 an hour for people with college degrees. The career prospects here have been depressed for years yet Day happily touts some nebulous rise in manufacturing jobs. After asking several people including those in the 'employment market know,' not one has a clue what manufacturing he's talking about in the following email.

We needn't ask him because if we do, we're liable to be blocked from his Facebook account; and we can forget about getting him on the phone or getting a callback. In many regards, Day is just an absentee landlord (who rarely drops by to deliver a free smoke detector under the guise of getting to know you while scoping out your place).

This one-page response filled with all the 'look smart' data provides no actual citations to where he got his fabroids (fabricated factoids)! One can only speculate which City Administrator or other employee put these talking points together but it's clear he's got them down pat, making him a damn fine parrot!

Come on Day your insane, or the proper term delusional disorder! I'll give you credit for one thing you should have become a naval officer and not army because you've proven you'll definitely ride things out and go down completely with ship. How do you keep going on and on with these ludicrous statistics you come up with? Take a ride out in Salisbury's industrial park its a frigging ghost town. I feel sorry for the young man daddy just hired for their newly created position, he's nor going to know what hit him once you're run out of government and take his job.

I'am 61 years old and I have lived in Salisbury the most of my life and all i see is jobs leaving the area.I don't know what boy wonderday is smoking but it must be some mean stuff.i'am grateful I'am not in the work force anymore,i feel for young folks who have kids here.It is quite scarey that we have a so called leader that is so out of it that he can't see the obvious of jobs leaving.

OMG where do I start. In 2008 - 2009 I was making 57K with benefits. From there it was a downhill slide. I lost my job due to downsizing and after a 2 year search got a job with a national company for 40K with benefits, because it was their belief that it cost less to live here. After they closed in 2014 I got a job for 45K with NO BENEFITS from a law breaking greedy employer who also claimed that I did not need to make much because I was a woman and it was cheap to live in the bury.

All the while rents have risen to well over 1K a month, food, and gas has risen and I had to shell out over 12K for healthcare.

I am now unemployed with no healthcare, I have been looking for a job for over 2 years (I kept looking while employed by Mr Greedy) and my most recent conversation with local employer is that they can't hang on to good employees, but they are only paying $10-14 an hour. Hmm I wonder why.

This guy is a delusional idiot, but let's pretty up the place, that will make my life better.

Manufacturing jobs pay crap, as does the college and retail. I fail to understand his point.

Can't find a decent job? I have 2. Get out and work. People don't want to work anymore, they just want to complain about people on welfare and act like they're the problem.

The index for jobs by daddy is booming in da Bury, right, Jake?

He's PROUD that personal income has increased to $38K in his fairy tale town?? Yet he pays HIS inexperienced, unqualified administrators $80,000+ per year!!!! Delusional does even begin to scratch the surface of what he is!

10:26 is correct.....plenty of good jobs in and around Salisbury. It takes drive and initiative on behalf of the individual.....who claims to be "looking" for a job!!! Then once they find a job, they have to have a good work ethic....on time, present, not complaining and teachable attitude.

$30,833.00 in 2005 had the same buying power as $38,044.97 in 2015, or an 8.1% loss.

10:26 AM Typical twit that misses the whole point of the article.

Sorry it takes you 2 jobs to make a reasonable living here in the bury, which ironically was part of the point of the article.

But I give you have high 5 for doing what you have to.

Joe I have been riding around town/Salisbury this morning and I have noticed a lot of weeds growing through the cracks or sidewalks. Almost all the side walks in Salisbury and some of it looked like it was 10-12 inches high. There was a lot of weeds in the median strips and the sides of the roads.

When that idiot Jake Day restructured the city Government did he dismantle Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance? I did see one of their trucks speeding down Church Street right by a lot of weeds. They used to give citations for obnoxious weed growth. What happened? It's a site and really does bring property values down! And they are more concerned about chain linked fences??

Matech moved from the county into the city during that timeframe. That's gotta be a massive chunk of statistical growth for a city with no jobs...

Success!

Disregarding of course, that no new jobs were actually created... d'oh.

12:00

30,833 / 38,045 = .81 or a 19% loss in purchasing power.

12:22 PM Its been 90+ degrees out with rain and you are whining because my grass got a bit high? I don't cut my grass when it is over 90 out. I don't need to have a heart attack over grass. Now that it is nice I will get to it.

Why don't you worry about the city properties that look like crap.

How about that storm drain infront of the water dept in the park that is blocked with trash. Maybe someone can walk outside of the building and clean that up. Or isn't that your job?

The sad part is when smart people start to believe their skewed facts and then cover them up with more BS.
But I do like the lady on the left on this cover photo. Wish women around here dressed more professional!

It is all true.
My employees at subway manufacture sandwiches for lunch and dinner.
Heck, sometimes we manufacture a breakfast sandwich or two on a good morning.

Gott go, I have to manufacture some Tuna Salad.

He's not being on the up and up.......again. As the mayor he should be able to name without hesitation job statistics. Instead we get this nonsense.
Example: He should know the names of all the manufacturing companies in Salisbury and be able again without hesitation give the approximate # of employees of each company. He should know how many employed in the restaurant industry, retail, etc. approximates of course. It's not exactly rocket science especially given Sby is small.

209 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 that's manufacturing in the food preparation industry!!!!!

It sounds as though the illustrious mayor Jake day will be called out of his little protected existence here real soon, being the so called great military leader as well as mayor. Jakie "BOY" put your big boy panties on sounds like president trump is actually going to back up all the idle threats directed at north Korea, all surrounding countries(Japan, south korea, China) are preparing for a major conflict on all their countries borders. Wow mayor do you have any statistics on the probability that three countries would send substantial military resources to their borders and a war not be ensuing? Make sure you take your camera and get plenty of photos for your Facebook page

I miss the days of Jim Ireton. Isn't that sad. Jake Day is PATHETIC and if the "good ole boy" network wasn't so embedded here he could probably be sued or criminally prosecuted for the ongoing theft of tax dollars he gives to his friends. I could tell the first time I met him he was a piece of $#!+.

They nailed it though your determination to go out and work two jobs is commendable if Salisbury was as viable as boy wonder states you wouldn't have to so. Hate to say it but it probably will come back and bite you later on in life
