NAACP, Teachers Unions Stir Protest over DeVos Commencement Address at Black University

The NAACP, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the Florida Education Association and other leftist groups are stirring protest against the president of Bethune-Cookman University for his invitation to U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to be the school’s commencement speaker Wednesday.

Some 50,000 signed petitions were delivered Tuesday to the administration of Bethune-Cookman (B-CU), an historically black university, by “students, alumni, and friends” of the school, reports Fox 35.

Leftist groups Change.org, Color of Change, and Dream Defenders are also promoting the petition, using social media hashtags #BackstoBetsy and #StopDeVosBCU.

Adora Obi Nweze, president of the Florida chapter of the NAACP, released a statement Monday that also called upon B-CU’s president, Dr. Edison Jackson, and the school’s board chairman, Dr. Joe Petrock, to resign immediately for extending its invitation to DeVos to speak at the Daytona Beach school. Nweze says DeVos should never have been asked to give the commencement address because she “still has not pledged to drastically increase funding for all historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).”

If it's not about funding they will find another issue to complain about that's the way liberals are.

Pledge for additional funding...WTH? Ask to be equal, but then DEMAND for additional funding. Hey NAACP - how bout YOU turn to fund raising and YOU provide additional funding, rather asking for a gov't handout. Want equality - go about it on your OWN!

You'd think that after eight days in office DeVos would be all over throwing money at historically black colleges, colleges whose performance historically lags, whose students graduate at miserably low numbers, and whose spending policies lean toward incredible waste. Shame on her for being so slow on the draw!

Why should they get preferential treatment on funding over other Colleges? These is another example of the NAACP governs against their own message of equality that they were established on / the written creed of the NAACP.

You know, I'm about sick of many of these SOB's and I don't use that language. Ungrateful people ruling and appreciative people earning their way. And to snub the speaker is rude and shows what class of people they are.

Teachers who aren't Obama zombies need to quit their unions (I did)

Beyond racist. Their organizational statement is probably way over the heads of all the whites that donate money to them.

If liberals are going to bash trump no matter what he does then why not cut funding to ALL violent liberal colleges that don't believe in FREE SPEECH.. you would be surprised on how fake liberals would change their minds when a BILLION dollars is cut.

As long as the NAACP pushes racism along with black colleges they should be defunded.
