Escaped convict deemed not competent to stand trial

A Wicomico County judge deemed an escaped convict who eluded authorities in Howard County for nearly a week not competent to stand trial.

David Watson, 28, appeared before a judge Friday. The Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office said Watson will be re-evaluated for competency again in six months to a year.

Watson escaped on April 28 while being transported to Clifton T. Perkins Hospital in Jessup and was found six days later.

Stop wasting our tax dollars on prosecuting Watson. Let him do his 100+ years in DE.

He's competent enough to escape from Barney Fife, but not to stand trial! Go figure!

Delaware found him competent. I agree with 10:52 - let Delaware have him.

Incompetent but knew enough to get out of the extra clothes, get out of locked restraints, evade Police and survive while on the run. What does it take to be competent? People are considered insane for less. Who is this incompetent Judge? Did the County States Attorney even show up and present a case? That is MD for you. Turn him over to Delaware and let him start serving real time which will never happen in MD. If he is let out and brought back to MD he will be null-processed and released.
