Ummm social security for recipients today is beimg paid for by ME! How is that diffrent from someone losing a job and ha img to take food stamps that are again, paid my ME.

6:26 that is not accurate. My work history - from which I paid taxes into Social Security goes back to 1965. So after paying into the system for over 50 years, and being the recipient of a monthly check, how is it you feel you are paying into MY benefits?

If the recipient receives an entitlement for MORE than what they put in, it's a hand-out.
Social Security, Medicare, etc. we're designed when our life expectancy was much less than it is today, so recipients are getting much more- in many cases 5-10 times what they paid in. So, stop with the argument that you paid for it. Very few take the same or less than what was paid in.
How to fix it? 3 ways: 1) push back the benefits start age; 2) increase the FICA tax; 3)eliminate the phase out level (currently around $115k)
A fourth way, slowly decrease future benefits for younger employees.
Social security is like the defunct public pensions issue: politicians years ago promised much more than they could deliver. Now, it's bankrupting our cities, counties, states and country.
Thanks, Mom.

6:54...I agree. 6:26... I invested 51 years of MY money into social security beginning when I was 15. I repeat, MY money. Obviously you don't get how the system works. I'm going out on a limb, you voted for Hillary didn't you?

Plus, 6:54 it was mandatory. If we had invested this money instead of the government taking it and wasting it, we would have been better off. As far as 6:26, I too earned this and it was misused by Uncle Sam as we used to call it. I do feel for you though, because you are kicking in and the illegals are stealing yours. The only advantage you have is a great leader, President Donald J. Trump

6:54

I get your point but the money you paid into the system from 1965 was robbed ans spent a long time ago. The money you receive now if from people paying in now.

Welfare is not earned or ever paid back. Food Stamps are not earned or ever paid back. WIC is not earned or ever paid back. They are indeed handouts. Good intentions aside, they have never been justified as a way to help. Instead, these crutches have incentivised a willingness to be dependent upon them forever. Why get a job when your assistance would go down? And why not have more kids to get even more benefits since you are home anyway? It's a never-ending handout.

Social Security has been earned but robbed by our government's misspending. Veteran Benefits are most certainly earned by the veteran but are not easily obtained. This is just so wrong.

6:54 because this Social Security that we're paying in to won't be around by the time we're able to retire.

7:04 I voted for Trump I just think we should follow the Republican agenda and get what we work for. So ironic that you're supporting something so socialist in nature. Take that money and invest it and you'll have way more when you're ready to retire.

6:26 Go to socialsecurity.gov and educate yourself idiot.

People on social security receive it after a lifetime time of work 30 40 50 years of working.. you can only receive it if you have worked long enough...Food stamps totally different...

Your totally wrong. Ss has nothing to do with city's going under..Increasing payroll tax would mean a smaller check to the employees but more money to the government... STOP raising taxes we are already paying half of our income to taxes...did you vote for BERNIE? Because he pays less then you and probably makes more.

Do you honestly not understand how it works or are you making a metaphor? Because literally your SS checks currently come from our paychecks. That's how it works. They don't save you an account from all your payments buddy.

909 while you're right that since Johnson opened up social security to work as a slush fund for the government the payments citizens were forced to make, the fact is workers made these payments and should be paid those payments. They were forced to make them in every job they did throughout heir lives and the COLA doesn't come close to making up the difference in wages then verses living prices now. Don't deny social security recipients in their elder years their payments. It's their money ultimately. It was the government that monkeyed around with it! Blame Johnson for that one.

Social Security is not an entitlement. Workers are forced to pay in regardless of whether hey want to or not. It's their money so denying them their own money is stealing it. If you don't want to pay out SS benefits don't force people to pay into the system. Amazing how many people don't get this being the New Deal is 80+ years old and it's one of its only surviving legislations.

Theres alot (too many) of people getting Social Security benefits that NEVER paid into it.

956 there's plenty of people collecting disability that don't deserve it either. Know one who collects it because he couldn't do the job he 'wanted' to do but he could still work. These programs are abused constantly but no one does anything about it.
