While an increasing number of Americans are reportedly abandoning the institutional church and its defined boundary markers of religious identity, many Americans still believe in God and practice faith outside its walls, a new Barna study has found.

I personally think the reason for church absenteeism is the mega churches. They have grown so big and impersonal. Most miss the closness of "church family". Another reason is so many are caught up on the secular word. Shopping, ballgames, movies, etc. Too bad, the Lord is watching. But, then again, he is a forgiving God. We all need to thank Him for that.

Nothing wrong with it at all! 21st Century and my TV provides enough enjoyment each/every Sunday!

I'm a 'reformed' Catholic. Don't go anymore because it was like the movie Groundhog's Day. Every morning was the same. Didn't get anything out of the cult-like atmosphere. You sit, stand, kneel and say the same thing every week. And the sermons didn't do much for me.
I was an altar boy, but it's not my church any longer, especially after they did nothing to crack down on pervert priests.
I'm more Christian-like than most people that go to church every Sunday. But, unless you are getting married or dead, I probably won't join you in a Catholic church anymore.

I haven't gone to church in years.

Our Roman Catholic church wouldn't let my mother get communion after a NESSASARY divorce. They wouldn't allow my grandfather to be buried in their cemetery because our burial plan didn't work for them. The priest made racist comments about blacks during my nieces baptism.
Think this new Pope is wonderful? Why didn't he speak up when he was a Cardinal in Argentina during their Dirty war when hundreds of thousands "disappeared"? Was the Government able to throw two priests and two nuns out of helicopters without first getting the ok from the church?
This is why I don't go to Church. It's just another system of control. I try to model my life after Jesus... I think if he came back he would stay home on Sunday too.

Don't go to Church but pray and believe with all my heart. I work hard each week and there are too many things to be done on the weekend. No excuse but it is what it is.
They say the Lord forgives and I hope he knows my faith is strong.

I am a Lutheran, you should come to our church. Our church has a lot of reformed Catholics who attend services with us. We would love to have you. There are great people there and we are not a mega church. Check us out. I go to Bethany Lutheran located on Camden Avenue in Salisbury. My Catholic friends call us Catholic lite!!!!

You don't have to go to church to be a devout Christian.

God is not in any building.

But it was Solomon who built the house for Him. 48However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says: 49‘Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me, says the Lord, or what will be My place of repose?…

There's nothing like having a church family!

I don't need a middle man between me and GOD. So many churches that I have attended have asked me to change in some way or to be born again in the church. No one interferes with my relationship with GOD. Organized religion has been the reason for so much carnage on this planet over the centuries, I can't be a part of it.

President Lincoln did not attend weekly services but he did read the Bible and was a God fearing man. From what I've read most people back then did not attend weekly church.

Church is a money maker. Look at what the priests, bishops and what ever drive. Lexus, Cadillac, Lincoln, etc. Look at the houses they live in. I remember a friend of mine who was catholic telling me about the priest of the catholic church making his chef cook steaks for his dog. Also the priest went down to the drive through liquor store close to the church at the time getting beer to sit back and drink. They are no better than we are. They are in it for the money. They do what they tell their members not to do.
