Let's Spend Tens Of Millions Of Taxpayer Dollar To Better Education

While physical attacks and assaults plague Wicomico County Schools, clearly delivering the latest and greatest "FOR THE CHILDREN" is proving to be a total waste of money. Besides, the criminals causing these assaults are not considered "children" while they get charged as "ADULTS". interesting how that works, isn't it?

We at Salisbury News had stated from day one, (when they proposed new school construction) PROVE it is WORTHY. Prove the grades are high enough to warrant such massive investments. Even County Council Members started asking for the same thing.

Yet your Liberal leadership shoved it down our taxpayer throats and day in and day out these "CHILDREN" prove we continue to throw good money after bad money. In the mean time, look at the examples these students are setting. Look at the extremely lenient discipline they deliver to these horrible students and finally, how the hell are the good students supposed to learn with all these distractions?

OK, so you tell me/us, what do you believe needs to be done to put these crimes to rest? I can assure you, your elected officials and Board of Education representatives follow Salisbury News.

How about really expelling students. how about really disciplining students. how about really creating a safe environment in the classroom so the kids that want to learn can. how about stop being pc and understand that some kids just don't want to be there so send them to their parents. on top of that understand that some kids just are not college material and want to learn a trade. so teach the trades and let the college bound kids be in a college prep class. stop worrying about hurting the feelings of little joey because he has a different skill set then jane

Well first off stop taking all the trash from other areas. Second set up an alternative (prison) school since that's what those kids will be experiencing at some point in their lives. let the ones that want to learn continue on without the trash!
Not that hard!

It's not Wicomico County--Obama mandated a huge decrease in disciplinary actions--that has resulted in this massive increase--You can't suspend, so the low lifes are still in school... Prior to this--the problem was absolutely under-control. Mr. Grudis at Bennett had perfect control until Obama changed the policy..

It's such a shame.. but Trump will change it back to the way it was I hope

Board of ED. Forget the quotas of punishment black students vrs white students. Give the teachers the freedom to create discipline in their class. If a teacher sends a student to the office because he or she is disrupting the class allow the principles to do their jobs. If they can't handle it replace them with someone who can. Allow Veterans who volunteer to sit in classrooms that seem to have consistent problems. Allow police officers to charge harshly and not babysit a student charged as an adult. In the resent incident where a student was charged with assault on a principle, he had her on the floor choking her with both hands attempting to cut off her air. Folks, that's attempted murder not assault.

The animals which attend Bennett were not deserving of a brand new school! This just proves no matter what the environment is that they are placed in they will remain animals!

10:19 is exactly correct. The fault lies with obama, the democrat politicians and the democrat voters. Democrats because they all are liars and lie constantly they dreamed up the decrease in disciplinary actions like suspensions so they could brag how good the schools are doing under obama. Time to face the facts. Democrats are human garbage. They don't care about there own children (and if they claim otherwise it's just them lying again) so they sure as heck don't care about anyone else's. They just want to get re elected if a student or staff gets hurt or even killed they could care less.

So many schools nationwide now are going through this including elementary students out of control. It can be blamed on the federal Dept of Ed and the newest "guidelines" for reducing suspensions and expulsions. They "recommend" not doing it for most offenses anymore and suggest alternative "punishment." i.e. Throwing food in the cafeteria before suspended now the offender instead should clean up the mess. If a school shows a reduction they are then eligible for more federal grant money. This is why the federal Dept of Ed has to go or at the minimum less funds allocated so they can't hand out grants.

I hope Briggs got at least one good punch in.

Wicomico does have and has had some real morons at the helm. Look at the place. Calling it a craphouse is a compliment. It's a blighted stinking mess when the area should be bucolic and the land values being so close to the ocean one of the highest in the state. This is what happens when the low IQ inbreds and those who haven't the ability to forward think do the so called comprehensive planning for generation. On the HS fight-with each and every incident there falls the housing prices in the area.

Until we convince parents to do better parenting, all the money in the world is not going to help 'teach' kids. Our country, and it's liberal policies, have encouraged the moral decay and it is rearing it's ugly head in the schools. How about encouraging getting married before having kids, trying to make your marriage work, teach kids and parents personal responsibility and work ethic. A 2 parent household - straight or gay, I don't care- has a direct correlation to student success.
yep, I sound like a racist -but I'm talking about all races. Look at the Asian's- blacks hate them because they're successful- they have a strong family unit, strong work ethic and respect authority. If we emulated them, instead of making excuses, schools would be much more effective. It's not money. It's society.

People that do not belong in the schools just don't. Alternative schools are an option. Real discipline is needed.

And why is the Parks thug not getting charged with attempted murder. Sounds like he should.

The thugs need some lessons. Do the crime and you will pay.

We have been way too lenient from parenting to schools to the prison system. Georgia has the right idea - follow through with the death penalty and be that best at completing the process.

Yes- I have had it!!

The physical structure means nothing when the students come from a culture that does not place any importance on education. MSM promoting the thug culture as social justice has unleashed these types of behaviors upon society in which the thugs think their actions against others are justified.

Remember we are in the 3rd generation of welfare children. Many of them had parents and grandparents who sponged on government handouts. Many are from homes of irresponsible parents an drug users. A good way to start is to require anyone on government assistance be drug tested.

This is what happens when you lower the standards by which we raise and educate our youth. My wife has been a dedicated teacher in Wicomico county for over thirty years and the horror stories never end.

Alternative schools are the ONLY answer along with a color blind system to mandate who goes to that school with no quota on race kept.

Considering those attendees, not students, who continually disrupt the class, let the class determine their punishment. This would show how the other students feel about how they are negatively being victimized. A silent vote, by numbered voucher describing the degree of discipline to be conducted by the school, school board, principal or whomever is authorized. Such discipline measures could be after school counseling, detention, suspension or dismissal. Ultimately the class will be the judge and jury. They are the ones being effected so give them the means to correct it.

Do just like the sports stadium in Philadelphia. Build a jail and courtroom in the school. Staff it with a retired judge and LEO.

After today's recent fights at Bennett, I find it interesting that the statement released was so vague. They'll take displinary action they say. Really? What will that do? When a principal and vice-principal are assulted, it clearly shows that they do not respect authority. It doesn't seem like they are scared of the police either. It's going to keep happening unless something drastic is done. If things continue going as they have at that school, someone will get hurt. I just hope something can be done before it's too late.

Two questions

2 Were was magic man Mark Thompson ?

Wor-Wic Community College originally instituted introductory english and mathematics classes to bring adult students up to date. Now, those classes are populated with recent graduates of from the Tri-County school systems. Their lack of ability to perform at the high school level indicates that the schools are failing miserably. They do not need new buildings costing millions, they do not need air conditioning. They do need to return to a pre-progressive philosophy that did more than to prepare students for a career asking, "Would you like fries with that?"

Joe...all you want to do is stir the pot again. The problem is not the structure of the school, this is all on the kids and their parents for raising trash. Students deserve current facilities and for 98% of them, they take advantage of this.

I have to say this about Dr. Hanlin. She has met with principal and said point blank...I don't care about numbers! She supports them and trusts that they will hold kids accountable for their actions. If not, they should be held to the line. I am sure that Dr. Hanlin will take a firm stance on what happened on Wednesday and again today. Her first priority is learning and not discipline numbers based on race.

As for comments about the BOE being vague about what discipline has occurred. Remember, they don't have to and HIPPA regulations prevent them from sharing.

One suggestion would be for Dr. Hanlin and Mike Lewis to do a press conference and look right at the camera and say that this will not be tolerated. You hit a staff member, you are expelled. You participate in a fight, you are gone for 10 days. They need to get the message out clearly!

And you wonder why the F*** anyone with brains doesn't not want all of Wicomico County high schools built in Ghetto 'Bury!! It's time to build a new high school on the East Side of the County. I am sick and tired of sending my kids to school in Salisbury. This is done so that smart white kids can bring up the grades of dumb ghetto black kids. This is done so that Salisbury high schools will be able to pass all state and national tests.

3:03 Nice try. Maybe HIPPA applies but not HIPAA

The HIPAA Privacy Rule establishes national standards to protect individuals' medical records and other personal health information and applies to health plans, health care clearinghouses, and those health care providers that conduct certain health care transactions electronically.

Does Mark Thompson work at Bennett?

PS Expulsion sometimes is also the only option.

If the students want to act like criminals treat them like criminals. On the first offense quit slapping them on the wrist and saying don't do that again and prosecute them and lock them up. If you do this eventually all the thugs will be in jail where they belong. Problem solved.

I must say my child will be at JMB next year. This is very scary and I am extremely nervous.

You separate the trouble makers from the students, kick the trouble makers out and forget about it.
