A Viewer Writes: Piedmont Airlines Update

Can't believe no one is talking about this. I don't see Salisbury staying open as a base. They are not bringing jet maintenance here and once the dash 8's are gone there will be no more need for maintenance here. From what I'm told they can't work on the jets in the current hangar nor are they training the current employees on jet maintenance. After that what will be the need to keep headquarters here? They have already stopped doing training here. Astonished that the county is just letting this slip through their fingers and not doing anything to help stop it. This will leave Salisbury as a destination only. Jobs will be relocated or eliminated.

Could care less, after getting stuck in Philadelphia or Charlotte multiple times, I have given up on that airport.
In comparison, it is now so much less trouble to just drive to BWI.

What do you expect from the Most taxed state????? Unlike you people, these other people running the airlines are sick and tired of being hit with tax after tax... Why do you think Purdue moved their stuff, and it is moving to Delmar...

3:10. We must have been on the same flights! Can't believe how many times I've gotten screwed on this airline! I thought US Air was bad, but AA is much worse.

piedmont sucks, they've done away with licensed mechs years ago. where's bobby tell us all again about those regional jets you keep talking up. Which you have been doing for how many years now? just another dave ryan. keep kissing political ass bobby! piedmont never paid landing fees got sweetheart deals on those hangars for how many years now? total BS. let em go. Like the posters above. I tell everyone if you absolutely have to be somewhere drive to bwi! so is farrow gonna be out of a job? that would be a blessing!

This county could absolutely care less - Bob Culver and company why are you not in talks with these people, doing something about keeping them here? Oh, that's right it's not important that we keep jobs in Wicomico County is it?

As others above mentioned I wouldn't take a flight through that airport of I had too, and I fly almost every week. I drive right up to BWI take Southwest and never have an issue. The people at the Salisbury airport are absolutely the nastiest bunch of people I have encountered in a long time. These idiots want you to be at the airport for an hour before your flight to process a bag??? Get real I can damn near drive to BWI in that time and take direct flights to my destinations. Why chance getting stuck in Charlotte or Philly, which happens REGULARLY. American Airlines Blows.

I had a positive experience at this airport recently. My only child was leaving with my new grandchild and returning to their home far away. I was so upset that day seeing them both leave and the personnel allowed me to sit with them waiting for their plane to take off. I was so grateful to the lady at the front desk, and the security officers who helped me find them. They made a very sad mom and grandmother very happy that day.

well i dont know how much the rest of you travel so i will speak for myself....Flying out of Salisbury is so much easier than flying out of BWI or Philly....i have done all 3....regardless you drive to Philly or fly out of Salisbury...you almost always have a delay...regardless....and flying out of BWI...same thing...i have flown various carriers...and guess what...same thing...a delay is a chance you take when flying in or out of anywhere. However i will say this...wish i could find cheaper flights to Philly or Charlotte...and one of the biggest mistakes is when flights to Baltimore were eliminated....but to be able to drive into the lot and park in Salisbury and check in and fly out is so much easier..not to mention of how much early you have to leave for your flight to BWI or Philly because you never know especially in the summer months if you will hit traffic on the way up plus they to want you there a hour ahead of flight time...and at your gate at least half hour ahead of time or they can deny you getting on that flight or gave your seat away because they thought you were a no show.....work on getting the flights cheaper in Salisbury.......and i will mention as somebody else did...in Salisbury if you have somebody leaving or coming in you can easily go into the airport with them and or wait...BWI...Philly...not so easy.....Our county leaders need to work on this issue...we the people do not want to lose our air service here....and work on getting us cheaper flights!

I have to agree with 6:51. Yes. I've had the occaisional snafu but no more than when flying out of Philly directly. Big plus doing the very easy check in at SBY and not having to deal with security at PHL. I fly a lot internationally so BWI isn't really an option for me. And parking so much less expensive at SBY. I hope flights continue from SBY.

Coming home through Philadelphia always runs the risk of not getting your baggage on the flight to Salisbury and having to get it later.

Ever heard of BWI? This is where real people go, no country bumpkins to deal with.

Kind of sucks when you buy a first class ticket and get delayed! Then you end up flying coach, and, if you're lucky, they give you a $100 voucher!

There is more than one local shuttle who will drive you to a better airport....this Wicomico Airport has so much potential and they are just pissing it away.

I have flown out of Salisbury many times in the last few years and I have only one delay. I would much rather fly to Charlotte then Philadelphia, but either one works.

swa flies direct darn near everywhere you prolly want to go domestically. less hassle and less time. and for you posters above you can actually go through security at any airport if you ask the gate agents. so that's not something special to sby. it's called educating yourself. enjoy sitting in PHL one of the worst airports in the country. I'll drive to bwi! been doing it for 15 years now and rarely have an issue. watched to many flights scratched in sby!

I can tell from some of the comments above that most people are clueless about the airline industry. Admittedly I was once a naysayer when weather or mechanical issues thwarted my travel thinking conspiracy theories galore. That is the furthest from the truth. The mechanics at Piedmont are highly trained and go through recurrent training religiously as do the flight crews. There is way too much at stake. The administration is top notch as well from the CEO down with the utmost respect for all employees and passengers. Come on, customer assurance is the bread and butter. As a wholly owned subsidiary of American it is incumbent on Piedmont to provide the utmost in quality in maintenance, on time performance, baggage handling, and customer satisfaction. Like any business economies of scale rule and business decisions are made based on those conditions. Why have there been no other major carriers in SBY? Piedmont serves many backwater destinations; the airline is a "spoke and hub" operation; most of you with negative attitudes should consider yourself fortunate for their existence.

Not the County, the County Executive. That all lies in his office.
