DELAWARE MAN CHARGED FOR ARSON OF HIS VEHICLE

KENT COUNTY, MD - A joint investigation involving the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Maryland Resources Police, Maryland State Police and the Delaware State Police has concluded with the arrest of a 2005 Ford Five Hundred vehicle owner. William J. Timmons of Felton, Delaware was charged with intentionally setting fire to his car on February 27, 2016 in a forest portion of the Millington Wildlife Area in Kent County, Maryland.

The 10:54 p.m. vehicle fire was observed by a passerby who notified dispatchers through the 911 system. Approximately five firefighters responded from the Millington Volunteer Fire Department and quickly extinguished the one alarm blaze within ten minutes after arrival on the scene. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at nearly $5,000.

The subsequent investigation led investigators to the vehicle owner. An arrest warrant was obtained and Timmons was extradited to Maryland and transported temporarily to the Queen Anne's County Detention Center where he currently remains on a $40,000 bond. He has been charged with 2nd Degree Arson, False Report of Vehicle Theft and Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,000. He will be transported to the Kent County Detention Center on a later date to face his arson related charges.
