COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES PUBLIC FORUM ON POULTRY HOUSE EXPANSION

Salisbury, MD… Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver has announced that on March 22, 2016, the County will host a public forum on the expansion of the size and number of poultry houses within the County. The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Midway Room of the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center. Members of the community are encouraged to attend.

“The poultry industry has been a vital part of our economy for decades. With the development of larger poultry houses and the denser clustering of them, many residents of the County have expressed concerns ranging from proximity to developments to environmental impact,” said Culver. “In order to address these concerns in the most factual manner possible, we’ve invited a panel of experts to address these issues and answer questions from the public.”

Panel members will include: a representative for the Maryland Secretary of Agriculture; Hilary D. Miller, Acting Director, Land Management Administration and Gary Kelman, Chief Animal Feeding Operation Program Manager, both representing the Maryland Department of the Environment; and Clifford S. Mitchell, MS, MD, MPH, Director of Environmental Health Bureau, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Participants will also include the County Executive and County Council. For more information, contact the Executive’s Office at 410-548-4801.

Gary Kelman already gave his approval so we know his position. It's not his drinking water at risk.

No drinking water is a risk you LIBTARD!!

Oh wait... the drinking water might be at risk. Isn't your septic system draining into the ground over your "drinking water?"

No 4:14 septic systems do NOT drain "into the ground." I'm amazed at the lack of knowledge people around here have. And even if septics did, that would be even more the reason why these industrial farms shouldn't be allowed. Tax payers pay dearly for environmentally safe septics and pay a flush tax. It's outrageous tax payers have to pay for manure storage and removal too.

4:13 don't assume just because someone is concerned with the environment that they are liberal. You can be assured that I am as right wing as they come and concerned about the environment. I donate more money to right wing causes and candidates then most people make in a year.

All you simpletons sitting around wondering why this area is so depressed and want jobs and businesses to move here are a bunch of idiots. If you think for one second any decent business is going to move to factory farm country you are grossly uninformed. No area has ever improved economically when it's saturated with factory farms. The fact stands that the areas become more and more economically depressed and are the poorest in the nation.

So to listen to some of the defenses who exactly do you think is benefiting from the poultry monopolies?? The latest on levin dashiell and rockawalkin is listed to a man from New York. Who's pockets are getting lined for all this sudden poultry development in Wicomico county??? And when you dispose of all the dead birds?? And yea we can't forget about all the manure that is full of lord knows what ( sorry but the feed their given to produce in such short times is full of chemical ) and allowed to be spread on all the agricultural land. How in the world can there be any good coming from it?? Oh Culver gets HIS and develops the relationships for his future agenda.
