Washington Law Would Let Counties Sell Broadband Service When Comcast Won’t

Last year, we told you about Seth, who had recently relocated to Washington only to find out he might have to sell his new house because Comcast had lied to him about being able to provide the Internet connection he needs for his home office. And even though the county runs a high-speed fiber network not far from him property, current state law restricts consumers from buying access to that service. Recently proposed state legislation hopes to right that wrong and give counties the ability to serve residents when Comcast and others refuse to.

An option should be given to all citizens regardless of Comcast availability or not because they are a monopoly - especially in places like Salisbury! And they take full advantage of their monopolistic status by grossly over-charging customers for marginal services. With all the antitrust laws and such, don't understand why this has not been addressed considering they're a multi-state corporation that should be subject to federal laws and under FCC rule.

Will the county spend the money to build to your house ? Comcast has the infrastructure built so how much will your county taxes rise if they become an internet provider? Cable has become a utility and should be regulated.

They are such LIARS!!! They tell you that the price you have is "locked in" for two years unless the equipment fee goes up. Then you get your next bill and it has gone up and it has nothing to do with the equipment. When you call them on it they just say, "Oh, I am so sorry that so and so told you incorrectly. If any of our services go up your services have to go up also. But let me look at your account and see what I can do. Why???

You are just going to give me some BS price also that next month will change and when I call AGAIN what happens. Same ole story!!! Thieves and liars. I am almost to the point of just turning all of it off. Screw em, the library is free.
