Police ban trailers from streets

Ramping up for 2016’s spate of vehicular events, the Ocean City Police Commission on Monday put in motion new parking restrictions, including a ban on trailer parking from public streets and lots without a permit.

Following discussions on how alleviate the negative impacts of motorcycle- and car-carrying trailers that block traffic on downtown streets or take up space in municipal lots, the commission endorsed the Ocean City Police Department’s recommended changes to the resort’s parking regulations.

Updates to the ordinance include jacking up the fine for violators from $30 to $250.

“The existing ordinance says that with very few exceptions that fines cannot exceed $30. There was talk at [earlier] police commission meetings that this should be a hefty fine for this violation,” said Capt. Kevin Kirstein.

Yep, sounds like someone is trying to gin up more revenue for Ocean City at the tourists' expense, even though the tourists are what is money maker for an otherwise silly little tourist trap.

The real money in OC does not benefit from the street gangs that show up and wreak havoc under the banner of tourists. Hence the restrictions.

You are joking, right? Just how many "class" eating establishments can you name on the boardwalk or downtown for that matter? You either head north or west OC. The participants bring the show. The spectators bring the beer guzzling audience. There are condo owners in OC that may bitch about lean parking areas but it's events like this that bring the tourists. The Air Show for example overwhelms the OC infrastructure with tourists but there is only one even like that except maybe fireworks for July 4th. Springiest and Sunfest are simply Chinese made flea markets for the elderly. Octoberfest, boat show, and condo shows are a joke. So, as a town, ease up on all the participants and visitors on 2 of the most popular events in the town. All the laws to keep things calm are already in place. Just put more officers out there to enforce them.

Just what do you define as "real money"?
