Judge: Porter Won't Have To Testify In Trials Of All Officers Accused In Gray Case

The circuit court judge presiding over the trials of all six Baltimore police officers accused in Freddie Gray's death ruled Wednesday that Officer William Porter doesn't have to testify in the trials of all five of the others accused.

Judge Barry Williams was responding to a motion last week by city prosecutors. That followed a Court of Special Appeals-ordered delay in the trial of Officer Caesar Goodson, who drove the van in which Gray suffered his fatal injury after an arrest in Sandtown-Winchester. The appellate court is considering a request for an injunction against Williams order that Porter testify in the trials of Goodson and Sgt. Alicia White. Wednesday's ruling does not affect those cases, just those of Lt. Brian Rice, Officer Edward Nero and Officer Garrett Miller.

Williams suggested the motion by prosecutors was really an attempt by the prosecution to delay all the trials.
