NAACP, ACLU challenge Hogan administration over scrapping Red Line

A coalition of civil rights groups and city residents filed a federal complaint against the Hogan administration Monday, claiming its cancellation of Baltimore's Red Line light rail project was racially discriminatory.

The coalition, which includes the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the ACLU of Maryland, said they are asking the U.S. Department of Transportation to launch an investigation into Gov. Larry Hogan's decision in June to scuttle the $2.9 billion transit project.

In a conference call, lawyers for the coalition said they will take the action on behalf of the Baltimore City Chapter of the NAACP, the Baltimore Regional Initiative Developing Genuine Equality (BRIDGE) and African-American city residents.

hank You again Gov Hogan. You have made a decision for all Marylanders, not just Baltimore and its mismanagement. If they want a job they have to put out an effort no more Baltimoreans living off the Tax payer. They need to start contributing to the City. The Gov just stopped another "gang" space for dealing.

Wow, that's a word I have not heard in a while.

"Discriminatory"? That's all? Not "racist"?

No matter what side of the city something is built on, if "discriminates" against the blacks that don't live close enough to take advantage of it.

"Jobs"? They were planning to get jobs, so they absolutely has to have the Red Line? Why haven't they gotten jobs they could ride to on other routes?

I notice the first stop is the Medicaid/Medicafe health center, and another is the Social Security offices. Most of what's what on the proposed route, is welfare and entertainment, and opportunities for criminal aggression against what remains of the taxpaying population.

We have hardly any "public transportation" here. Shore Transit fills the need of the leisure class to get to the various welfare and "benefits" programs around the area. It is inadequate to for commuting to a real job.

So I really don't want to hear about how canceling a proposed light rail route :
