Commissioner Manfred denies reinstatement for Rose

Pete Rose, who was given a lifetime ban for betting on baseball, will not be reinstated and will continue to be banned from working in baseball, Commissioner Rob Manfred announced Monday.

"Mr. Rose has not presented credible evidence of a reconfigured life either by an honest acceptance by him of his wrongdoing, so clearly established by the Dowd Report, or by a rigorous, self-aware and sustained program of avoidance by him of the circumstances that led to his permanent eligibility in 1989. Absent such credible evidence, allowing him to work in the game presents an unacceptable risk of a future violation by him of Rule 21, and thus to the integrity of our sport," Manfred wrote.

"I, therefore, must reject Mr. Rose's application for reinstatement."

The all-time hits leader, 74, was placed on the permanently ineligible list for violating Major League Baseball's strict rule against betting on baseball on Aug. 23, 1989. Subsequently, the Board of Directors of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum declared that all players on that list would also be ineligible for election.

That's good, we wouldn't want MLB to have any connection to gambling
would we ? Oh draft kings or fan duel, that's not gambling, lol.

We don't have room for him. But we do have room for drug addicts and wife beaters!

He bet on the game, not only as a manager, but as a player. Rule 21 is posted in every clubhouse. He earned his lifetime ban. All he had to do, was come clean. It's nearly 30 years later, and he still is lying to everyone about betting while playing, despite the evidence.

He'll get enshrined in the Hall....the first year after he's dead. lol

He was a CONMAN.

Whatever. Baseball is a dying professional sport. I lost the love of the game long before Pete's issues came up. Its boring, they play to many games, seeing a game can bankrupt you, violence in the stands and crappy neighborhoods outside the stadiums. What does baseball have going for it? The personalities are devoid of anything positive. Drug abuse, cover ups, lies, more violence.

Why would I want my kids to watch baseball and god forbid see them as a role model? Yes, baseball has much bigger problems. Yet they drag this Pete Rose nonsense out every few years to perk the ears of the true fans from 30 years ago. Pete is no better or worse than any other scumbag that has played the game.

The commissioner can go suck an egg.

Ban him for betting.....Bonds and McGuire type dopers carry on with there millions. Hitting instructors, yeah take the steroids away and you have two average hitters. I guess they call it fair! Baseball and Football Commissoners are a joke!!!!

He should never be allowed back in baseball, but he should absolutely be enshrined in the HOF. Completely different conversation.

pete rose never bet against his team, unlike basketball and football, both amateur and professional, where players are paid to take a dive don't even mention wrestling and boxing let the players vote to reinstate him the decision would be reversed

What part of "strict rule" do you not understand?

Anonymous said...

1:44 PM seems many people don't know what "shall not be infringed" means. So why not strict rule?

I like Pete. I think he's one of the top 3 players of all time. But he broke the rule that's been posted in every baseball clubhouse for almost the past 100 years.

Have other baseball players done worse things? Absolutely. But Pete broke the gambling rule.

What part of discrimination do people not understand. Tom Brady is the biggest cheat I now of. He is still playing and never sanction. Let Pete Rose be reinstated. He deserves to be in the hall of fame. What about all the steroid users in baseball now and in the past setting records. These records should never have been recorded as such.

This I agree with. He admitted to the commissioner that he still bets regularly on sports. He just has too many inconsistencies in his story with what the evidence shows. Ole' Charlie Hustle was an awesome ball player, he shouldn't be allowed to take part in the MLB because he still can't be trusted. However he belongs in the HOF.

Pete Rose has paid for his mistakes. Time for baseball to realize he should be added to the hall of fame. Other sports allow worse to play their games including dog fight organizers, wife beaters and those involved in bar fights where someone got killed.

Who is he and who cares?
