SIDEWALK UPGRADES UNDERWAY IN CRISFIELD

New ADA-Compliant Pedestrian Pathway Benefits
Businesses, Residents and Tourists in Historic
Water-Oriented Somerset County Community

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) continues to improve pedestrian access and safety in Eastern Shore communities. Work is now under way in Somerset County’s town of Crisfield to replace deteriorated sidewalks and bring pedestrian pathways up to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

SHA is upgrading all sidewalks along a 1.5 mile stretch of MD 413 (Maryland Avenue/Richardson Avenue/West Main Street) from the Crisfield City Dock to Mill Lane. Work includes removal and replacement of sidewalk, curb and gutter and installation of new ramps and detectable warning surfaces.

Motorists should expect daytime shoulder closures for most of the project with occasional left lane closures for median work. SHA expects to complete the project by spring 2016. Up to 7,800 vehicles travel MD 413 each day and the City Dock area is a popular summer tourist destination generating significant pedestrian traffic. See http://www.cityofcrisfield-md.gov/ for more information about Crisfield.

This work is part of a $4 million multi-location “areawide” contract that SHA awarded to Image Asphalt of Pasadena to replace 180,000 square feet of sidewalk in Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties. Estimated cost for the Crisfield work is $1.1 million.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to keep traffic safely moving in work zones, please partner with us because work zone safety is everyone’s business – slow down and stay alert. Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone.

Look for Pollitt to take credit, even though this was allocated and funded prior to him working in Crisfield.

Hope the construction specs will permit the town manager to use them after they are completed!

Would someone tell me why they are pouring new concrete around poles in the middle of the sidewalk?

Crisfield? Why not fix Salisburys sidewalks? Dumping any money into Crisfield is a waste. First flood its all crap. Matter of fact.... The whole damn area is crap. Nasty place.

Why bother? They could have made revisions to the existing sidewalk to make it compliant. The streets in Crisfield other than 413 are costing residents an arm and a leg in front end work and tires, but they said they only got grants for low income neighborhoods for paving....As much as they hype that polluted beach, its a rough ride with holes all over the entire roadway.
There are sidewalks throughout town with sinkholes and cracks big enough to trip over. Many of them have buckled due to flooding and the land sinking lower but no one cares as long as the tourists have a nice highway to come and go on.Our Main Street looks like a war zone with condemned, empty and boarded up buildings, including one with no roof that has sat there.Where the hell is building and zoning on this? I see construction work done without permits, and storage cubes and/or untagged junk cars all over town.
