Richmond court dismisses suit involving cow dung in streams

A Richmond Circuit Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by an environmental group that sought to keep cattle from big livestock farms out of streams.

Cattle in streams often drop waste and cause erosion. That taints waterways, many of which lead to the already troubled Chesapeake Bay.

The suit by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation asked the court to require Virginia to prohibit large livestock farms — for cattle, that’s defined as 200 to 300 animals — from allowing the cattle in streams.
