Baltimore’s Robert E. Lee Park May Be About To Get New Name

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — As South Carolina removes the Confederate flag from its State House, a local movement is underway to take down Confederate landmarks. Monday night, the City Council took the first steps to rename Robert E. Lee Park—but it’s not something everyone is on board with.

Meghan McCorkell has more on the controversy.

Some say the name of the park is racially divisive but others argue it is a part of history.

A tranquil spot for boaters, dog walkers and fishermen alike—450 acres of city land just over the Baltimore County line. But this park is now the source of controversy because of its name: Robert E. Lee Park.

“That name needs to come down and a more appropriate name placed on it,” said community activist Dr. Marvin “Doc” Cheatham.

Let's take down all the Mason Dixon Line signs as well. Tear down the new Harriet Tubman place, too. It should not be one-sided. I'm tired of it.

11:35 Ditto. Perhaps if the city of Baltimore doesn't like the Free speech of a parks name then maybe they will sell it to a conservative group that will maintain it for what it is. History.

and for those who want to 'black' wash history sometimes it's not which side they were on (although they are all americans) but the strategies and stories of compassion that go along with them.

ENOUGH already...

Names change all the damn time. You don't think the natives had a different name for the Wicomico River? Move on with the times people.

1:10 I agree. While we are at it let's eliminate all the Martin Luther King highways and schools. Way overused name don't you think? Let's move on with the times people - especially ones like you 1:10.

I'll move on when you do libatard.

I'm not sure why the park has the name it does, especially since it is in Maryland, which admittedly straddled the line between North and South during the Civil War. Perhaps there is a good reason.

In a spirit keeping with the times let's rename it Freddy Gray Memorial Open Air Drug Sales Park.

Renaming the park I racist to white people!!

Ya know folks, I said, on this very blog, that the flag was just a start. That you/we were never going to be able to give them enough. And, once this park has a different name the 'give me more' will just keep on.
You're watching your country being destroyed before your very eyes and the lunatic leaders are pushing it as hard as they can.

The blacks and libtards are taking advantage of the Battle Flag situation to dominate all of America and divide this nation even further.

The racist black are trying to scrub everything white and make themselves the power elite in this country and ignorant white people are allowing this to happen.

They want the park to be named after the "Best President Ever" Barak Obama! They got hundreds of kids writing letters for the renaming of it.

When our past governor apologizes for not saying that only black lives matter, it is obvious that we have a politically correct mindset in the majority in Maryland. It's gonna get much worse before it becomes any better.

Just can't wait to see what they changed the name to!

They did not have any problem with the Civil War last year when it's 150th anniversary was making the government money.
