1 in 3 Americans Owns a Gun

Nearly one in three adults in the United States owns at least one gun, according to a new study.

In the study, researchers surveyed a nationally representative sample of 4,000 adults in the United States on gun ownership. The researchers found that about 29 percent of respondents said they owned at least one gun.

Most of the gun owners were white men older than 55, and the majority of them were married, the researchers said.

The rates of gun ownership varied from state to state, with the lowest rate in Delaware, at about 5 percent, and the highest in Alaska, at nearly 62 percent.

The researchers found that both the rates of gun ownership and gun deaths were higher in states with looser gun-control policies, compared with states that have stricter policies.

The new findings are important in showing the toll that gun violence in the United States takes on people's lives and health, the researchers said. In 2013, a total of 33,636 people in the United States died, and 84,258 were injured, due to gun violence, the researchers said.

People have to own guns. This is the only thing that is stopping a certain segment of society, you know the "oppressed" from ransom home invasions.

Source UN ..Key facts are:The US has the highest gun ownership rate in the world - an average of 88 per 100 people. That puts it first in the world for gun ownership - and even the number two country, Yemen, has significantly fewer - 54.8 per 100 people. But the US does not have the worst firearm murder rate - that prize belongs to Honduras, El Salvador and Jamaica. In fact, the US is number 28, with a rate of 2.97 per 100,000 people. Puerto Rico tops the world's table for firearms murders as a percentage of all homicides - 94.8%. It's followed by Sierra Leone in Africa and Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean. THIS article is misleading..

LOL! Another third of us are otherwise law abiding citizens who have unregistered guns that have been handed down to us or bought privately.

The other third owns stolen guns with serial numbers ground off.

So, that makes 100%!

Or, in a non-owner's eyes, 99%.

I would like to see the basis for the claims made by this author.
I feel these claims are absolutely in contradiction to the facts.
As I've learned over the years, the more freely law abiding citizens are allowed to own guns the safer they are.
Why is it that all the mass shootings seem to happen in gun free zones?

A very carefully crafted "study" to further gun control...

Whoa....What about Switzerland? If I recall correctly, every able-bodied male citizen is required to undergo military training and MUST keep his firearm at home and in working condition. So what's the murder rate in Switzerland? Huh? Huh? It's damn low, it's damn near non-existent, that's what it is.
