Maryland lawmakers express concern about toll reductions

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —Maryland toll reductions won't harm transportation maintenance or current plans for projects, the state's transportation secretary said Tuesday, though lawmakers questioned how the state revenue loss wouldn't have a negative impact on infrastructure.

Pete Rahn, the state's transportation secretary in Republican Gov. Larry Hogan's administration, told a panel of state senators that the toll reductions are affordable because of a combination of higher-than-expected revenues and efficiencies in operations within the Maryland Transportation Authority.

"I believe that the toll reductions have been extremely responsible," Rahn said. "I believe the reductions are financially responsible for both the tax payer and for the authority, and that we can accommodate these reductions within all of the plans of the authority."

And if Owe'Malley had not ROBBED the transportation fund to begin with we would be in even better shape. The democrats can howl all they want but they didn't stop the previous governor and the saying goes. You reap what you sow.

We will have to deal with that for awhile.

The Bay Bridge is poorly run with many toll booths empty with building traffic. They cause a large percentage of the wasteful back-ups with the Lanes not managed properly when they need 3 lanes Eastbound. Sometimes at 4 PM you go through there and it is like all of the Administrators took a 3 Martini Lunch and went home.

Before you know it our roads will be as bad as Pennsylvania's

12:37 Get an easy pass. They are going to phase out all the toll booths eventually.

Also keep an eye out for those orange single axle trailer boxes with solar panel and a telescopic post with a gray box on it. They collect data on every ez pass that goes by, much like the licence plate scanner meta data we have heard so much about. No ez pass for me.

Well I don't know how they will pay for the never ending bridge work. That bridge has been a construction zone for half of my life. Just like the new never ending intersection work at 50 and Worwic, as well as the business 13 repaving that has to be redone every two years because they keep hiring incompetent people. Three times in 6 years I've seen that road repaved and every time its "finished" it is still a tire blowing, wheel bending, suspension busting disaster. I've stopped getting my alignment worked on because one trip down 13 and its shot again.

2:42 - my EZ-pass stays in the foil pouch till right before I go through the toll booth - then I put it right back! It is not just the little orange trailers - they have detectors all over the place!

Thank you Governor Hogan for helping the common taxpayer. I greatly appreciate the reduction.

I have always wondered when I crossed the new bridge, why in the world was a three lane bridge built? It makes no sense and is extremely dangerous. I think a four lane bridge would have made more sense and saved on delays and accidents.
I never feel safe driving on the new bridge especially with on-coming traffic buzzing down that one lane. It only takes one crazy in a hurry to kill innocent people.

I am sure the Annapolis legislator has an official parking lot. So I propose that a booth be installed and each person to enter pay $50 per day to park. This will help with any deficit and help them feel good about helping their state !!!
