A woman who was being pursued by Virginia State Police this morning on Interstate 264 hit a trooper’s car and then a wall.
A trooper tried to stop the westbound vehicle about 3:55 a.m. at Newtown Road on a speeding charge and suspicion that the driver might be impaired, a state police news release says. The vehicle was clocked at 80 mph in a 55 zone.
The crash happened at the ramp to Waterside Drive. After the car hit the trooper’s vehicle, the driver lost control and ran into the wall, the release says.
The driver, Crystal Lynn Jones, 35, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the release says. She was charged with speeding, felony eluding police, driving on a suspended license, felony assault on a law enforcement officer, felony state property damage and possession of Schedule I narcotics.
