Satanists Deem Abortion a ‘Religious Belief’

The pro-abortion media crowd is embracing new ally in their fight: Satanists.

“Mary” from Missouri is hoping to bypass her state’s 72-hour abortion waiting period by citing “sincerely held religious beliefs” – as a Satanist.

An atheist blog broke the story of how the Satanic Temple plans to aid a woman it calls Mary who believes in its “tenets.” The media followed suit, from a Think Progress editor expressing “love,” to a Salon editor concluding, “[R]eligious exemption laws are maybe cool when Satanists use them to get abortions.”

Damien Ba’al, the head of the Satanic Temple’s St. Louis chapter, described his group’s “Project Mary.”

“This is about a human being who has rights to control her own body and a right to her religious beliefs,” he said on the GoFundMe page raising money for Mary’s transportation to the St. Louis Planned Parenthood, lodging and daycare for her (born) child.

“Myself and the rest of the St. Louis chapter of the Satanic Temple will be helping her circumvent these obstacles,” he said, because, “according to our tenets, one’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.”

According to the Friendly Atheist, Mary will challenge her doctor in a letter “as an adherent to the principles of the Satanic Temple” to contest the waiting period. As a part of that community, she will outline her “sincerely held religious beliefs:”

Again, this is why it is so important that our founding fathers are honored and respected by upholding their wisdom with the separation between church and state and the establishment clause.

Christians, blame yourself when it comes to this. The so-called Satanists are really just atheist trolls with a fake church, but who are cleverly using the Christians shoehorning their version of religious freedom into society. And let's be honest Christians it's not really freedom at all it's about interjecting your own theocratic dreams into our society. These so-called Satanists are just taking advantage of what you Christians have been fighting for.

Christians, you fought for this. Christians, you argued for this. Christians, if you need someone to blame you only need to look in a mirror. Christians, you came wrapped in the cloth of false religious freedom, when you really were just trying to exercise your privilege, while lying about caring for religious freedom because you really just want a theocracy of your own brand of Christianity. Now you get all butt hurt because So called Satanists have taken advantage of your handiwork? You should be ashamed of yourselves.

There is a reason that our brilliant founding fathers set up our government to be a secular government, it was to ensure religious freedom and to protect against Tyranny. You foolish Christians need to figure that out and get with the wisdom of our deist forefathers.

This is exactly why religion has no place in government. This is exactly why religion has no place in the public sector. This is exactly why our founding fathers set our government up to be secular. Why won't you just figure this out?
This is your fault Christians, time to admit it.

".. it's about interjecting your own theocratic dreams into our society.."

Another bitter, resentful liberal (the same one we keep hearing from) trying to vilify Christians because the framers of the Constitution specifically granted a right to free exercise of religion.

It isn't the fault of Christians that satanists are trying to pervert the Constitution to justify an abortion. It has nothing to do with Christianity, any more than muslims killing non-muslims is caused by Christianity.

No Christians I know of are seeking a Theocracy here.
That would be the muslims.

No Christians I see are trying to force their views down anyone's thoat.
That, too, would be the aforementioned muslims.

What I DO see is millions of people, both Christian and non-Christian, standing up for the rights of unborn children, and calling abortion what it is-- murder.

And the reason these murders continue is because of the actions of bitter, resentful liberals who don't want anyone telling them what to do.

We will continue to call it what it is, and stand up for the fundamental right-- the right to LIVE.

And nobody is buying into your perverted guilt trip, 2:36.

2:36 Spot on.

I would add, this case highlights what can happen if the "wrong religion" uses those same so-called "religious freedoms" to diminish and curtail your own personal beliefs and practices.

2:36 responding to 3:24

First off I don't support abortion I oppose it. Second, I'm conservative, libertarian really.

Stop parroting what you hear on Fox Pseudo-News, and the narrative it tells you to repeat. Stop parroting conservative blogs and start using your own brain. Look at the facts and determine what's true and what is not.

Do you know how I know that you did exactly what I'm accusing you of? Because your knee-jerk reaction was to try to insult me by calling me a liberal with no reason to do so. You used it as if it was an insult and not as if it was a descriptor to a person's political viewpoint.

Nowhere did I post that I supported or did not support abortion, and nowhere does it give you any indication of my political stance.

Start using your brains people. I don't believe in a God but if you do start using the one you think he gave you.

What if those that oppose abortion chose not to have one and those that are not opposed to abortion have the choice to decide if they want or do not want to have one? Seems pretty simple to me. Everyone has what they want.

and yes I know the difference between choose and chose....missed an "o" while typing.

Killing a baby is murder, 5:10. It doesn't become less so just because someone calls it a 'choice' or claims the right to do so.
(And the idea of claiming the right to kill an unborn baby as an exercise of their 'religion' is ludicrous. Would a claim of sincerely-held religious beliefs justify murder?)
