Senator Inhofe: Speak English

Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., has brought forward legislation that would declare English the official language of America.

The bill is aimed at unifying, not dividing, he said, in a written statement.

“The United States’ culturally diverse population is what makes our nation great, and what helps us move forward together as a society is the ability to communicate to one another,” Inhofe said. “The [bill] … will help set legal immigrants on a path to success as they integrate and work towards becoming citizens.”

He also said “this legislation will strengthen the cords of unity that comes from sharing one vision and one official language.”

The bill, if passed into law, would mandate the federal government use English for official business, including swearing-in ceremonies for citizen naturalization events.

Co-sponsors, all Republicans, include Sens. Jeff Sessions, John Boozman, David Vitter and David Perdue.

But the legislation has its detractors.

Good for the SENATOR

Yet, we don't speak "English" here. It has been modified, and bastardized, to the American way. No thanks.

11:37 - You must be a clueless dumbocrat!

Standardizing a language would be such a benefit for this country.

No more wasting time on 'press one for english'....wanna be a citizen - be proficient in english!

Considering some of the positive things this Senator has done - and compared them with some of the things Senator Frankenstine has accomplished - you need a lesson on what is actually good common sense!

11:53 thank you. It is painfully obvious 11:37 is a liberal moron.

Seriously, is he and are some of you on here that insecure about the "official" language of this country that you feel you need to put an idiotic brand on it? Come on....there is a big world out there beyond your parents driveway.

2:29 Ethno-Centric, Really? You seem to be the one that's Immature. Official Language Spoken in U.S.A. is English, so learn it. Or move to Bangladesh!

Which English?

The Queen's English?
Texan English?
Bahston?
North Dakoda?
English from the Valley?
Brooklyn?
Alabama?
Crisfield?
When it's unanimous, then English it is.

this is hilarious. study history? well studying history should tell you this piece of nonsense legislation comes up in history and it is always defeated. no more press one for English??? Are you serious? Do you think once they pass this non enforceable law people will automatically begin to speak English? If so I want them to pass a law making Mandarin the official language because I have always wanted to speak Mandarin. Too funny. Thank you.

Any English is good. Broken English, Haitian Creole English or French Canadian English or Louisiana Hot Sauce English would be JUST FINE

For those who nit-pick about what kind of English, just English will do; not German, not Chinese, not Spanish, not French, not Haitian, etc. One of the characteristics of a nation is a common language. It unifies all that claim to be a part of a nation. With many different languages being spoken and used within a country, it creates instability and conflict, civil wars, and distrust between neighbors within a common border. This bill would go a long way to assimilate ALL immigrants into our great nation and country.
