First Responders To Get A 2% Pay Increase

The Ocean City Police will see a 2% COLA, (Cost Of Living Adjustment) pay increase very soon. The F.O.P. has negotiated the increase and the Firefighters will more then likely see the very same.

The Town of Ocean City did a Pay Study back in December to see if the employees are in line with the proper pay, being paid too much or even too little. However, the Town refuses to state the findings of the study until AFTER their negotiations with the F.O.P. were complete. That being said, we should be hearing of their findings very soon.

Many have commented in the past on the incredible salaries already being paid out to each department. It is the GO TO place to get a job, that's for sure.

There is some restructuring going on but for those already on the job it certainly is paying off.

Salisbury News will provide these new salaries in the near future.

WARNING: Will this be coming to a town near YOU?

Absolutely disgusting already grossly overpaid!

This story must have gotten cut off. It didn't mention bus driver pay.

I can't wait to see that pay study. O.C. is paid more than many of the big departments across the bay already.

"Cost of living" has only gone up through TAXES and FEES at the county, city, state and federal levels. Of course, every where you look, we have a thriving economy. /sarcasm

UNIONS!!!

That's because you drive a bus. Your nothing compared to us cops! We risk our lives and your a chauffeur! Understand?

Anonymous said...

And people across the bay really have cost of living expenses. I know o.c. cops who live near Cambridge and other places not o.c.! Why pay them when they don't live in o.c. where it is expensive? They better figure who lives where.

Excellent! Can't pay these guys enough for what they go through!

The ocean city pay study will show the police are paid 10 to 15 percent behind comparable agencies on the shore and or across the bridge.

Wait and see the facts before you cop bash too hard.

20 years and retire on tax payer funds...then get another job paid by tax payers.

1:33, The thing is the cost of living is so much higher on the western shore.
If the study used PD's across the Bay Bridge as comparables then OC needs to be demanding back their money paid for this study because they got taken big time.
A house that would cost you $200,000 here is going to cost $400,000 up there.

Now if we can do the same for Salisbury city employees

2:20 Based on work output, or lack thereof, you would owe US a lot. Public sector jobs should follow minimum wage laws, that's about what you're worth.

Police pay just as much taxes as anyone else!

Anonymous said...

1:33 compare the pay to military pay and tell me the police aren't overpaid.

1:49 Pm You gotta love that double dip. If you even question them about it, they get all offended saying they did their time, and how you must be anti-cop. The same person will also go off about people being on welfare and food stamps, but sees nothing wrong in what they're doing

Anonymous said...

So they are just not as over paid as the rest of the Leos? Thanks for clearing that up!

I agree the police do put their lives on the line everyday and should be paid accordingly. No argument from me there.
I have the problem with retirement. The argument is since it is a demanding and stressful job the retirement is short (20-25 years due to this). Here is my issue the argument for short retirement and many (not all) retire from one law enforcement agency and go right back to work for another law enforcement agency as a sworn officer. Now I do understand many go to a new assignment such as court security, etc. but they are still sworn officers and some have take home cars and they can still be shot, hurt, etc. in court.

When was their last raise?

Anonymous said...

Your an imbecile. And your point goes now where.

Anonymous said...

It wasn't long ago.

The teachers and cops have been segmented from the rest of the "regular" employees. Same as Wicomico. They get the raises and the rest get nothing. Last raise regular stepchildren employees got in Wicomico was a 1.7 percent in 2010. One department shouldn't get something that the rest don't get.

Policing has many challenging moments; it has a lot of tranquil time, too. Some cops are great; some not. Overpaying for the work is one way to ensure a long list of applicants.

I recall the earlier article about their pay. Those boys & girls are banking it in major ways!

The early retirement deal is unsustainable. Let them retire after 20-25 years but make eligibility to collect age 55, or similar age+years of service formula. They can continue to work w/o retiring, or take another job until age 55.

Nobody is pounding a beat; cars have A/C and there are fitness programs everywhere so the old 'I'm worn out' argument is less valid.

And with a union contract, look for disability costs to rise as language loosens; they do everywhere else.

OC has been accustomed to passing the costs onto tourists and absentee landowners but the goose only has so many golden eggs. Its elected leaders and their wealthy managers are generally short sighted.

You can't take that into consideration. Duh!!

Hey Bus Driver.... Do you guys have a union? Did you have to go to an academy to get certified in your job? Do you have to run and exercise to stay in shape for your job? Do you have to qualify on shooting your weapon? Oh, that's right you don't carry one. Do you put your live on the line like an officer or a Firefighter Paramedic? Do you go into burning buildings? Do you get over 2 years of specialized training to perform like saving medications on a bloody patient? Do you have to where rubber gloves of a mask for many of the riders who get on your bus? Do you have to log 15 minutes of information into a computer for your riders to make sure the appropriate people get copies. Do you drive that bus at high rates to speed to get to a scene to save someones life?

Hey bus drive... If you don't like your job then get the training and then apply to become a police offer or a firefighter Paramedic.

Problem solved!

BFD!!! You have the opportunity to do the same thing!! It's not against the law and you low life scumbags need to quit complaining. I notice you whiners never complain when you dial 911 because someone is breaking in your house or you have chest pain because your bacon grease filled arteries are clogged.

Firefighters are already over paid and should not get another pay raise for many years.

So What!! There is nothing wrong with it and it isn't against the law!! Just because you are jealous about it is not a reason to stop it. If you don't like it then it's not within your rights to complain. They are doing their jobs and deserve it. You had the opportunity to become a police officer or another type of government employee.

I totally agree with this comment about the Salisbury firemen and their fat lazy cheef Hopeless. That gay homo mare keeps allowing them to spend money over and over again year after year and this will come out during this years election.

It's not the same... Dumbass! And it's two totally different governments. Not all military put their lives on the line every day unless they are activated to a war zone. If they don't get hazard pay for that then go to the appropriate government and complain to them. No one on this blog will do anything for you.

If you want to get paid like teachers and cops then you should become a teacher or a cop. When are you idiots going to learn. Since you are that stupid to understand that simple concept then you don't deserve to get paid any better.

You just don't get it. Many jobs have a lot of "tranquil" time. I notice you don't complain about how many smoking breaks you get. I notice you don't complain about your numerous coffee of piss breaks. I notice you don't complain about the numerous times all your buddies gather around the desk and bullshit most of the day. All jobs have gotten soft with "tranquil" time, but I bet you don't get shot at at any given time. I bet you don't have enough courage to try out for the team.

1:15, you are the idiot. When a pay raise is deemed as a cola, it should be a applied across the board. The cost of living for that group isn't any greater than another. Secondly, I will guarantee the amount of education that I received to do my job, and it is not a bus driver, is far more than any that you had to receive. The reality is that according to BLS statistics, it is actually the truck drivers and construction guys that stand the highest chance if being killed or injured at work. A cops most likely injury will be from a traffic accident and we know how many at fault crashes they have and just how many "burning" buildings do the. "Far" fighters run into? PS, the Flaming Grill doesn't count. You guys aren't special , sorry, you chose your job. Don't expect extras.

1:00 I don't call 911. It takes over 45 minutes for you to show up. I would be at the hospital by then, or have the body buried. I do understand that it is hard to put your burger down and come help me, though.

1:12 AM, You must have a major inferiority complex to resort to name calling. No wonder you became a cop.
As far as military not putting their lives on the line every day, I'm sure most police officers don't either. However a military member doesn't have to be in a war zone to put their life at risk. Plenty die every day in training accidents. Remember those Marines who died a few days ago.
As far as your comment "No one on this blog will do anything for you." I don't understand the purpose of it. I don't recall asking anyone for help.
It was nice to see that you weren't competent enough to respond to the question in an intelligent manner. Keep up the good work.

You are absolutely correct. The military does not get paid overtime and they do not get to sleep in their own bed every night.

They are worth much more. The public relies on these folks everyday of the year, 24/7, and they always muster to the job. Thank all of you for a job well done. You have a lot of support in the community!!

Should get a 100 percent increase. Thanks for your courageous commitment.
