U.S. Army Report Urges Preparations For Troops to Occupy NYC, Other “Megacities”

"Army could be called to act in one of these places tomorrow"

A U.S. Army report warns that American troops need to be prepared to enter New York City and other global “megacities” in order to prevent civil unrest, political uprisings and protect key infrastructure and natural resources in the national interest.

The report, entitled Megacities and the United States Army (PDF), was released by the Chief of Staff of the Army, Strategic Studies Group.

Cautioning that the power of national governments to deal with the problems caused by increasing urbanization and the growth of megacities is “diminishing,” the report notes, “It is inevitable that at some point the United States Army will be asked to operate in a megacity and currently the Army is ill-prepared to do so.”

When they do, they will find themselves surrounded by all of us in the non- megacities, and there's a lot more of us than there is of you!

Rotsaruk with that plan...

I'm wondering, why the Army? With all of the military weapons and vehicles now in the hands of cops why would they need help from the military? There's more to this then the article is telling us.

Lets see...roughly 34,000 officers in NYPD and a little over 1 million soldiers including reserves and guard in the Army...

What's your point 9:58PM?

I guess I have to spell it out for you ginn...manpower. if you are planning on securing a city or part of a city would you want 34,000 people or would you want more?

I thought I'd check back to see if you did reply 9:58PM and I see you have. I truly don't expect you to do the same but I'm going to spell this out for you should you do so.
It's obvious to me that you have no tactical nor military experience for if you did you'd likely realize that 34 thousand armed with the likes of M4s, grenade launchers, night-vision equipment, sniper rifles equiped with night-vision scopes, armored troop carriers, helicopters and on and on could easily hold an unarmed city the size of New York with the proper command. An example is Alexander the Great, he had only 30 thousand troops but his command was exceptional, and we all know how much territory he was able to conquer and hold.
