Spiegel: Germany’s Large-Scale Offshore Windpark Dream Morphs Into An Engineering And Cost Nightmare

The print 35/2014 edition of Spiegel magazine focuses on the growing failure of Germany’s first ambitious offshore wind energy project, BARD Offshore 1, which aims to be a model for the world in providing clean, green energy on a large scale.

So far things hardly could have gotten any worse technically, and now financially and legally. For Germany, a highly admired nation when it comes to science, engineering, and technical prowess, the large scale energy project threatens to morph into an embarrassment of monumental dimensions. See more background here and here.

And the same thing will happen with offshore wind power in Maryland. It will fail and cost taxpayers billions. But that's OK, just keep voting for Democrats.

These moron democrats are too stupid to look at the wind/solar failures all over.
But after all, it's not their money, it's ours.

If commenters here want to be fair, it is easy to find information about many more wind power success stories than failures and even this projects problems will be solved with time. This is still emerging technology. Not every project is going to startup with no problems. Wind energy is going to be an ever increasing part of our future. Get used to it.

Wind energy is dead. It is not an emerging technology. Windmills have been around for over 2000 years. Electricity generation with turbines over 100 years ago and proved impractical as it always will be.

Wind farms need to have different sound measurements made to reveal their true costs. They're currently measured with A weighted sound measurement (dBA) but they really ought to be measured with C weighting (dBC). That does a better job revealing the true levels of infrasound.

The land based turbines kill bats. They do so not only by striking them but by causing the capillaries in their lungs to rupture. That is a product of infrasound. Imagine what they'll do to marine life. Imagine what they'll do to the ability of whales and other animals that communicate over 100s if not 1000s of miles using low frequency sound pressure.

All that for dismal electricity production. BTW, Germany's carbon output went up last year. That is in spite of being world leaders in the use of wind generation. Also of note is that this was during a recession that had the rest of Europe yielding lower carbon emissions due to decreased consumption.

Wind is a pipe dream.
It's failures are well documented.
It is time we learn from our mistakes.
