Delaware State Police Homicide Unit Make Arrest in Cab Driver Murder

Millsboro - The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit have made an arrest in the August 20, 2014 murder of William Toomey.

Joshua J. Dutton, 23, was developed as a suspect through investigative leads and was contacted on Thursday September 25, 2014 at Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI) where he is being held on a Violation of Probation charge. Information obtained through interviewing Dutton revealed he was picked up by William Toomey on Coastal Highway just south of the Sea Esta IV Motel, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and then driven to a secluded location within the Parker’s Point development west of Millsboro. At that time, Dutton removed his trouser belt and used it to strangle Toomey from behind. Dutton then drove the Taxi through various locations throughout Sussex County before stopping and abandoning the vehicle on Country Living Road near Millsboro.

The death of William Toomey was classified as a homicide by the Division of Forensic Science after an autopsy was performed on August 21, 2014 and ruled strangulation as the manner of death.

Joshua Dutton was arrested today, Friday September 26, 2014, for Murder 1st and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony. He remains incarcerated at SCI without bail.
