Federal judge rules D.C. ban on handguns in public is unconstitutional

The District’s ban on carrying handguns in public was struck down by a federal judge who called the restrictions “unconstitutional.”

The decision by Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. comes five years after several gun owners joined together to file a lawsuit challenging the District’s gun laws, which only allowed residents to possess a gun in their home or business.

In light of Supreme Court decisions that struck down near total bans on handguns in the District and Chicago in recent years, “there is no longer any basis this Court can conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny,” Judge Scullin wrote in an opinion dated Thursday and made public Saturday.

The city has the right to appeal the decision, and a spokesman for the Office of the Attorney General said his office is “studying the ruling and considering our options.”

Thank God for the Second Amendment and the Supreme Court> The kenyan king is as true a dictator as was Stalin but with the mental sharpness of Hitler. He is a danger to all Americans.

I believe the same thing happened in Maryland and it was appealed. A gun dealer told me if I wanted to purchase a hand gun in Maryland the cost of the permit is about 550$. So, being my mom didn't raise any dummies, I'll just get one of my friends in Delaware or Virginia to buy one for me in their State. Maryland looses again? No tax revenue here.

So wouldn't that make Maryland's law unconstitutional also?

The U.S. Constitution is null and void. Our existing government is a corporation established in the city of London.

The corporation has rules which its employees (all of us) must abide by in order to receive the "benefits" of employment.

We live under the UCC (Universal Commercial Code) now. We are commodities.

2:25 what you state is illegal, and you both of you will face jail time

a permit to buy a handgun in md is @ 100-150. its called an HQL.
the cheap way to to get your training via hunters safety course.
then the permit fee is $50 and the fingerprinting is @ $50.

follow the law or face jail time

Nobama set the precedent on ignoring laws. All things being equal, if he can ignore the federal laws on immigration, enforcement of weed laws, ignoring the 2nd amendment, and so on and so on, we can pick and choose which laws to ignore too; works both ways.
So drop the drama about breaking laws.

Liberals will file an injunction, the courts will grant it and it will be the way it was before, just like what happened in Maryland

2:25 So, you knowingly make a straw purchase? And post it here? Not very bright are you? You know "anonymous" doesn't mean much, right?

People like you ruin it for everyone. You can be mad about the new laws, the system, the incompetence of the people you have to deal with to get your permit... but you can't break the law, and be mad about the gun laws being jammed down our throats... you are creating them... or helping them make the case.

3:48 The Constitution says nothing about restricting a person of gun ownership. And law sir, is a restriction of ownership. So, you wish to punish me for wanting to protect my family.

Move to Virginia like I did, it is so great! AR-15's at the Walmart, buying hand guns at garage sales, flea markets, no paperwork and no registration!

The point is, criminals have guns purchased or stolen on the streets. They don't have permits. Those guns will kill you, permit or not. Therefore, the permit process for a law abiding citizen is nothing more than a restriction and tax. Dead is dead, permit or not! I don't think 2:25 was encouraging people to break the law, I think it was meant to show how stupid the law is. No permit needed to purchase a Dewalt 18 volt nail gun. Nuff said.

Maryland has nothing going for it as a state. There is no draw for businesses, taxes are offensively oppressive, drug use (hard drug use) is rampant, law enforcement is totalitarian, the courts are far, far too lenient, political corruption is the norm, on and on, etc, etc. So, what makes anyone think there'd be any difference toward gun ownership.

screw the law and you too.

3:48 You are dumber than a fishing worm. A friend of mine just moved from West Virginia to western Maryland. He owns legally, 6 hand guns. Does this make him a criminal in Maryland? Does he have to obtain a handgun permit to move to Maryland?

10:15 not a criminal yet, but if he does not register them he will be

That is one type of 'criminal' I can abide.

Don't register anything. Buy guns wherever you can.
If they want to come and take them, show the idiots who show up to confiscate them what they're really supposed to be used for....
Hint -- it ain't "hunting", or "protecting your family", it's to make sure the government knows who the boss is.....and to throttle them when necessary.
A necessity which is long overdue.

Damn. ANOTHER list.....
