The Campaign Opens A Full Frontal Assault On Maryland's Health Care Debacle

Those in charge of the October 1st rollout of the Maryland healthcare exchange hoped that it would be a model of excellence for other state exchanges across the country. Instead, their anticipated "Maryland Miracle" has hopelessly devolved into the "Maryland Mess."

And despite what the current administration and its hand-picked successor for Governor want you to believe, it is not getting any better. Now in its' third month of rollout, it is actually getting worse.

The administration is actually asking for emergency legislation to move people seeking health care to the Maryland Health Insurance Plan, a high-deductible state program designed for high-risk applicants. Estimates so far by the state, show the cost to do this will be between $5 million and $10 million.

Being the pro-active types that we are, Jeannie and I decided that it was time to stop being outraged and start suggesting solutions to this train wreck, although we are still way beyond outraged.

Sadly, it is time for the adults to take over. That is why we have boldly suggested that the state start telling Marylanders that they can sign up for health care by going directly to the insurance company for the same plan offered on the exchanges.

We believe that the $150 million earmarked to promote the failed website would be better used promoting easier accessibility through the insurance companies.

Our plan to bypass the Maryland Health Care Exchange can be read in the news release that went out this week and was picked up by media outlets across the state, including an article in the Washington Post. Click here

Our campaign has also uncovered another glitch in the state website that sends applicants to "navigators" in Delaware and Virginia. This glitch was highlighted in another news release that also went out this week.

We are not going to let this issue get swept away or sugar-coated by those responsible. This is a travesty and dereliction that is affecting peoples' livelihoods and lives. We hope you will join us in our efforts to turn this around and get Maryland back to making health care affordable AND accessible.

David and Jeannie
