Pittsville Residents Hold Their 9th Chili Gathering

Each year Pat and Rick gather the community together and cook almost 50 gallons of chili for everyone to enjoy. For the second year in a row I got up at 5 AM to take care of Posts and then headed out to Pittsville to stand in the cold, (before the sun was fully up) and help put ingredients into the 50 gallon pot, all the while stirring the pot to make sure nothing ever burns.

The cooking goes on for eight hours and around 2:00 PM people start showing up. Cars are lined up  parked on the side of the roads and people bring their own specialty side dishes.

As far as the chili goes, it's absolutely fantastic. How Rick and Pat mastered making such incredible food in this volume is beyond me and if you saw all of the ingredients that go into making all of this it would blow your mind.

Yeah, this is how America used to work. Communities coming together. Neighbors getting to know neighbors. Friends and families gathering for good clean fun and entertainment.

So when is the last time YOU gathered in your community for an event like this?

Well - I could tell that something was brewing in this area. I could smell a stinch in the air that was never there before.

Obviously - they gave the Chili a good dose of beans to.

Our family makes 50 gallons of apple butter each year in a similar pot.Chili is a great idea.
