Fire At Wi Middle School

There's a fire at Wi Middle. Sounds like an electrical box caught fire. All the kids have been moved into the gym. You can't even move right now in that area.

Its a good thing we had the paid Professional Firefighters ready to roll out immediately. With no long response on a volunteer having to go to the firehouse and then wait for his crew to roll out. and the professionals know the building better than anybody in able to fight this fire and keep the kids safely. with their slow days they get the train for incidents just like this. thank you for the professionals in our city. for all of you haters out there the firefighters this is one of the entrances do it prove every once in awhile we need our professionals.

It's not much. Sounds like the flooded electrical box the other day that caused them to be without power. Water and electricity don't mix.

The fat lazy one is so in love with himself that he had to assume command when it wasn't even needed. He is so in love with himself that he did the job of the safety officer and conducted the PARR check. I guess he was hoping someone would hear him on the radio. What a goof.

Wboc is a joke ......not a word about it on their site.

I know you must fight fires but did you drop out of school early or something?

8 fire trucks. 4 ambulances. 6 police cars.

The volunteers could have handled that call easily. Quit using a BS call to justify your job.

Paid Professional? LMFAO

OMG this is an embarrassment to all firefighters.

Maybe a teacher trained to use a fire extinguisher would have solved the problem? What was the cost of the community for this overkill of police cars, fire, and ambulance?

For balance, does the response equal the emergency?

12:36 - You seem to need a much broader perspective on community services. The all volunteer company I belonged to in the 50's had more calls (about 500 FIRE calls/year), more professional responses, a thorough knowledge of every major structure in both its jurisdiction and those adjoining it, for a significantly less cost. This was before there was a 911 yet we still had trucks rolling before the house siren (activated by whomever answered the "hot" phone on call completion) completed one cycle.

SFD shows very little to be proud of except for driving their big trucks to syncopal episodes and for folks who have fallen.

I am VERY disappointed in the school system. There was no notification to the parents until an hour later after the fire engines were called to the scene. When finally receiving the phone call and email notification there was NO mention of a fire at the school and that SEVERAL fire companies from Salisbury, Delmar and Parsonsburg had arrived on the scene. Luckily, we know about the first call due to having a fire scanner at home and was able to immediately go to the school. When I spoke to a few parents, they only knew because of a posting on Facebook and from phone calls from other parents. I realize that the school must take steps to ensure everyone is okay, however, parents should not find out via Facebook or the news as to what is going on with their child at school.

Most likely that a member of a vol. department would be a licensed electrician and be in a better position to assess and handle the problem. Our local vol. dept. has 2 electricians, a plumber, a physician, FBI agent and several contractors.

What did 1:40 do upon arriving at school other than be in the way, block a driveway, potentially be injured by arriving big red trucks?

now all the paid fireman can go to subway for some footlongs. time to fix some flat spots .

Don't be silly 12:36. my high school had more fires from kids lighting cigarettes in the bathroom. But hey you make me feel so safe.

You don't have to be very educated to be a fireman. Look at their fire chief.

Most volunteer fire companies are just as diverse. That's what makes them very successful.

It's ok! It's raining so the sparks won't go far. Get back to class.

Everybody knows that Volunteer's feet are glued to the floor wherever they are when the call goes out. That's why we need paid professionals staked out ah various eateries around town to be on for a quick response.

Right?

2nd alarm for an electrical box. What a waste of resources. From Delmar and Parsonsburg? Had more Salisbury fire chief cars there then real fire equipment. Wonder what they call for if it was a trashcan? 5th. alarm plus special call foam unit. Understand fireboat still enroute at 6:00 pm. Got lost at Giant.

Well it sounds like most of you do not have kids in this school.
I do and the teachers and administration did a wonderful job. The power went out, dark stairwells and dimly lite hall ways.
The students were kept calm and evacuated the building in an orderly manner and then after knowing the fire was out, they were sent to the gym. I think it is more important to assess the situation and take care of our kids. Our new society is of the NOW... got to know everything NOW group. Everyone needs to be thankful that the fire was small and contained. My father was a volunteer firefighter for years. God bless the men and women for the time they put in. Grow up and stop the finger pointing. I pray every night that grown ups would act their age and get along. When you lay your head on your pillow at night THANK GOD that our children are all home safe and sound..

I have a child at WI Middle and I an very unhappy with how this was handled. Tuesday they were without power. They knew this prior to the start of the day. They could have opened late, after power was restored, or kept kids out of the school all together. Instead parents got a call hours after their children had been in a school without power. The call was to say "you can pick up your kids if you would like". Clearly power was restores but safety wasn't assessed, because there was a fire yesterday with a building full of children!. Not at one time did any of the calls or emails to parents mention a fire. The calls again were two hours after the event. I would have appreciated "all the children and staff are safe and there were no injuries, however there was a fire and Salisbury's fire dept did respond.". Not "we were evacuated for a power outage, you may pick up your children if you would like". I AM concerned about what information the school isn't providing. If you read their press releases it sounds as though they are trying to hide something. Furthermore, having worked in the school system, I can guarantee you that you aren't getting the whole story. I have watched information get buried before with threats to staff to not leak information. These are people watching your children hiding information from you about the safety of your children. i want to know if the building safety was assessed by a fire Marshall Monday when it was clear an electrical short caused a power outage. I assume the fire Marshall insisted there were to be no students in the school the remainder of the week. WCBOE has held school without power, heat, bathrooms, and even more situations before. To not have classes for the remainder of the week means someone HAD to insist they had to close. There is so much more to this story i am certain and I want to hear it!

6:48 - Here's a thought for you - Home School your child (ren).. If you are so concerned about the safety of them, then put your kid somewhere else or in a bubble!!! My god, They had all the kids in the gym and everyone was ok. Thank God, it could of been worse!! You want to hear the rest of the story - Go to a meeting and find out. Now are you going to complain cause the kids will be out of school for the next two days?! Let's not make things bigger than they need to be!! Thank GOD the teacher, staff and children are ALL ok!!!!

I think 1:40 just wanted to get out of work early. Either that or all the soaps were boring.

Here is something that not one person mentioned about the fire at
Wicomico Middle School. There is a sprinkler system in the school so the spread of fire is limited. No need for the overkill response.

Wrong my friend. No sprinklers in the electrical room.
