Baywater Animal Rescue Updates Pet Food Pantry To Meet Demand

Cambridge, MD--Baywater Animal Rescue has recently had to make new guidelines to their pet food pantry in order to meet the community’s demand. “We had to change the way we distribute the pet food because the number of people seeking assistance continues to grow and we are unable to meet the demand,” said Christina Kimerle, Operations Manager for the rescue. “All of the pet food in our pantry is donated; either by Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Pet Pantries, or individual donors.” Baywater Animal Rescue now requires that pet owners bring documentation to show they participate in a government assistance program and a photo ID. This documentation must be renewed every six months and the amount of food given is calculated based on the number of pets at registration. “We don’t want to encourage anyone to take on another pet if they have trouble feeding the one(s) they already own,” adds Kimerle. So far, reaction to the changes have been positive. “People who need help are truly appreciative,” said Kimerle. The pet pantry is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1-4pm at 4930 Bucktown Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613. Donations are accepted during regular business hours.
