No Child Left Behind?

House Republicans want to do away with a signature Education Department program. On a party line vote, they passed a bill to dismantle the troubled No Child Left Behind law. The legislation would eliminate federally required student testing. The Obama administration immediately issued a veto threat. An alternative Senate plan would give local school districts more flexibility, but keep the federal government as the arbiter of what's a good school improvement plan. No Child Left Behind was enacted in 2001 by a bipartisan coalition.

Yeah of course Obama would veto it.... Pearson Education was a leading contributor to his campaign through direct contributions and contributions through various PACs. Guess who is designing the standardized test that EVERY county and distict in EVERY state will have to administer AND pay for? Not to mention other "practice" tests, workbooks, teacher training materials, etc., etc., etc. Why hasn't the lid been blown off of this???

Every teacher I have ever spoken to (and that is a lot) hates No Child Left Behind, but they are afraid to openly make that statement. Sad to say, it is a simple fact that there are some kids that are either unwilling or unable to learn, and to hold back the higher performing students for the sake of a small number of students is wrong.

Yes obama will veto. He's nothing but a slave boy to big business. The 100's of millions the company10:40 mentioned plus the other For Profit testing companies drag him around by the nose.

I work in a school and I can tell you that for MANY it is a babysitting service for the parent! There are students that can't even eat or hold their head up let alone learn. Many are tube fed, diapers changed *in high school), catherized and suctioned. These kids deserve to be in a building together not in with kids that are trying to learn. Why are they in schools with kids that want to learn. It's pityfull but they need special schools for these kids.

1040, I thought NCLB was law before the man came to office. Had he tried to dismantle it you guys would have been screaming about gov. overeach again.

I have to admit that I originally supported the NCLB law. After time and talking to and listening to educators especially in the public school system I realized while perhaps good in theory, in reality promoted testing as the means to an end and little if any gain in real education.
I stand corrected.
Public Education (whether you like it or not which is another conversation all together) like local/state government representation should be that..governed and administered local/state level and not by an distant self serving over reaching federal bureaucracy.
Mr. Bongino summed it up in his article "The DC Bubble" by exposing the philosophy and inner working of those inside the Beltway
...Divide and Conquer!

The no child behind act is pointless. It causes the class to slow down because of a single person and that single person does care most of the time since they are taking naps or showing up one a week.

When I was in school there were no uneducated teachers in the system and no had to worry about ANY KID LEFT BEHIND. Hell we were all poor. We learned right from wrong the hard way and received an education.Politicans suck and its gonna get worst.
