ARRIVAL OF GRASS & WEED SEASON

The City of Salisbury would like to take this opportunity to remind property owners that according to Chapter 8.08 of the Salisbury Municipal Code grass/weed & noxious growth shall  not be in excess of 8 inches. Every owner of any area, lot or parcel of land shall cut, trim or  otherwise remove or cause to be cut, trimmed or otherwise removed all grass, weeds, brush or  plant growth thereon in excess of eight inches.
Additionally property owners of any lot or land located in the city shall maintain their respective  curbs, gutters and sidewalks bordering their parcels of land in such condition as to be clear of all
growth of grass, weeds, brush or plant growth within the curb, gutter and sidewalk.

The first notice of violation provides a ten (10) day compliance period. A second notice of  violation provides a seven (7) day compliance period. A third or subsequent violation will result
in the city immediately securing a contractor without notice to perform the necessary work. All  charges/fees etc. will be placed against the property in the form of a tax lien.

The City of Salisbury is also authorized to write a Municipal Citation in the amount of $25 for  the first day of noncompliance and $50 for each additional day of noncompliance, but shall not  to exceed $500.00 in total for that specific violation.

Complaints regarding violations of Chapter 8.08 can be directed to the Department of  Neighborhood Services & Code compliance at (410) 341-9550.

Neighborhood Services reminds property owners that by maintaining our properties we make Salisbury a cleaner and more inviting city for everyone to enjoy.

Be part of the solution, maintain your property, everyone benefits!!!

The way it is written it includes trees and shrubs. I don't think this can be legally enforced.

As far as the city goes lets fine them when they don't clear their sidewalks from obnoxious growth.Remind them to do something with all the boarded up houses fix the city park bridges. The city of Salisbury is not the most beautiful place in the country and you wonder what we are paying taxes for sometime but they waste more tax dollars are raise taxes and can't keep a balanced budget. Liberals lol. Their are responsible homeowners that do try to maintain their homes but when you mostly rental units and people that don't care throw trash in your yard.

Maybe the city should first enforce this law on their maintained areas. Once they have their areas in compliance then they can start writing up private citizens. Furthermore, the inspectors themselves can get on a mower to help public works during the process if it's too overwhelming. PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES SHOULDN'T THROW STONES.

The Laws on the books have no teeth. NSCC does not hold up their end of the bargain.

No wonder Salisbury is a high crime area. Let's check the priorities: grass police, water police, furniture police, rain tax, air tax, city, county, state, federal taxes, snow police, curb police, gutter police, plant police, bay restoration police...gush no wonder the police don't have time to catch criminals!

Let's not forget the neighborhood compliance group who sit in their cars/trucks with the engine running burning gas on our tax dollars with air conditioning running reading paperbacks and newspapers, taking naps, eating, and talking on their cell phones. Then have the nerve to dictate policy when it's all the elderly can do to pay the bills and have enough left over for medicine and food. This whole department was created to get more money for the city and no other reason. Most that work in the department are not qualified to make any kind of decision regarding problems at properties. This entire department needs to be eliminated and save the taxpayer.

Why doesn't the city start with the Elks and fine them every day the grass is not cut on their property. Drive down Schumaker Drive across from Holloway Funeral Home and look at that mess, then drive all the way around the golf course - they need to get with it and start cutting and keep it cut. Their property is on the outside of the fence as well as on the inside.

The post office is usually the worst! And the area around it... check out Grace St where the grass and trees are halfway into the road. Sad.

Boarded up houses in the city are just the beginning, the city or subcontractors cut the grass but use no weed eaters for trim and leave behind "weed trees" over 4' high. Which would still be a violation for home owners. And what about boats abandoned in yards for over 2 years not taged, vehicles no tags and dog pens over run with dogs facing the city streets. Dogs tied to fences, trees with less than 2 feet for the animals no food or water in sight for over 6-8 hrs per day!

Just spray your entire yard with Round Up®. There is no law stating that you must have a lawn.
