SOMETHING REMARKABLE IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW WITH THE PRICE OF FARMLAND

Investor Jim Rogers and Glenn Beck earlier today discussed the global decline in the number of people interested in pursuing farming as a professional career.

“Nobody wants to [farm],” Beck said, referring to an earlier conversation he had with Rogers. “And it’s not just here — it’s around the entire world. Farming has become a lost art.”

“The average age of farmers in America is 58,” Rogers noted. “In Japan, it’s 66. In Canada, it’s the oldest in recorded history. In Australia, it’s 58. In 10 years, those guys will be 68 (if they’re still alive). Somebody has got to go into the fields.”

glenn is correct on this but in addition why would anyone want to farm when the government is allowed to devalue the land?

I certainly agree with the 3:58 comment, but Glenn Beck and the study is referring to western land values. Out west they still respect personal rights: gun rights, property rights, etc.

UNFORTUNATELY, NOT HERE IN MARYLAND!!!

NOT UNDER O'MALLEY!!!

Actually, the reason the average age of farmers is so high has a lot to do with the enheritance tax, most family farms cannot possibly pay when the bill arrives. Forcing them to sell their farm into larger, corporate farms.

If nobody wanted to farm....how again do we have record crop production worldwide?

It is because farmers can not make a living anymore since factory and contract farming have taken over. Not only can't they make a living but the companies dictate everything and they have no control anymore. It was okay until the big companies lobbied for regulations which forced the smaller companies out and then when there was no more competition the farmers ended up being paid less and less money for their work.
Attempt to buy directly from farmers if possible.

As long as there is an inheritance tax, it will continue to decline.

Imagine inheriting a large farm and immediately be assessed a tax equal to a third of what you just got. You would then need to sell a big chunk just to pay the taxes.....

The better for the government to control who gets fed and therefore, who gets to live.

The government intends and has implemented such programs, to reduce this countries, and in conjunction the worlds', population.

Disarming the population of this country and the world in general, is one needed step to accomplish this.

If we are both alive to see it, then we will see if I'm right or wrong.

Let's say I want to grow up and be a farmer? Is it even posible to go and get a loan to do so? How big a loan would I need to buy enough acres and equipment to earn a living? A million or two? HMMM I need to get over to that bank and inquire about how much collateral I'm gonna need to work for a living. I wonder how many years I'll have to work at some other job to save up that collateral, so that I may start my farming carreer? I guess my point is that in this day in age if you are not born into a family with land to farm the deck is really stacked against you.
