A 14-year-old girl in Polk County, Fla. was arrested Thursday for allegedly choking her newborn son to death and storing the body in a shoebox after she secretly gave birth in a bathroom at her home earlier this month, WJXT reports .
Just days after being treated for what was reported to be a miscarriage on Sept. 19, Polk County sheriff’s deputies got a call indicating that the body of a full-term baby had been found stuffed in a shoebox at the teenaged girl’s residence.

Sad. She is just a child herself. This is what happens when there is a breakdown of the family, moral values aren't a priority and the result of the casual attitude toward sex that approx 47% of society has.
I suspect since this occured in FL and FL being FL will overcharge this child and they will get it shoved right back at them as happened in the Casey Anthony hyseria.

WHat are you even saying @7:36? Sometimes people are just bad. This girl has little remorse on her face. She put the baby in a shoe box. That is not a breakdown in the family, that is a psychopath. If you are 14 you are old enough to understand what will happen if you strangle a baby.

Have you all bothered to read into this story? Obviously not. The mother was told by concerned relatives that they thought this child may be pregnant. The mother in her ultimate wisdom bought and allowed her to take 2 at home pregnancy tests in private in order to preseve the girls privacy!

I do blame the liberal 47% whose liberal thinking includes giving 14 year old "privacy" and shame on you if you follow this line of thinking. A 14 year old needs a mother not someone who is worried about her privacy when pregnacy is suspected.

Did you not watch the Democratic convention? Every other speaker's topic was casually sex related and that is because, that is what is represented by the 47%. Kids are doomed anymore. Then you got the public schools where they teach kids how to put on condoms and other sexual related things so kids think it's okay. The problem is any parent knows how hard it is to enforce a kid to put on a coat when it's cold so you can not ever trust them to use a condom. Go back to the "old" way and teach where premarital sex was for the sleeze balls and low class.

SO maybe she did not want people knowing her 14 year old daughter was pregnent but I still do not see a connection between that and this girl murdering her child. She seems to be ill, now it could be neglect on the parents part by not making sure their child was stable but I still fail to see how the parents are to blame for this girl strangling her child...

I agree there was a breakdown. The mother's priorites are screwed up. She should have been more concerned that her 14 year old may have been pregnant and less concerned about her daughter's privacy.
There should be concerns about a child's privacy but this isn't one of them.
Looks like she just got tired of it. Public school taught, She is her own woman able to make her own decisions.

Concerned relatives told the mother they thought the child was pregnant.
Mother has the child take 2 home pregnancy tests. The child tells the mother they are negative. The mother admits she did not see the results because her reasoning is she was allowing her daughter privacy. The mother didn't even know the child was pregnant.
If you do not think the mother is responsible then something is seriously wrong with you. If I had a 14 year old and relatives were telling me they thought she was pregnant I would demand to see the results. Only a moron would ever trust that a kid is telling them the truth 100% of the time and something like this is too serious to not be most diligent.
The kid is 14 not 18.
Had the mother done what a normal responsible mother would do, the infant's death could have been prevented.

It wasn't until sex education started to be taught in public schools that the illegitmacy rate and teen pregnacy rate increased so that angle has been a complete failure.
Personally I would rather schools stick with teaching skills that teach and increase literacy such as reading writing and arithmetic and leave the social issues to parents and the church.
Bottom Line: she knew what she was doing and she should be held accountable to the extent of the law. stop babying young people.
Parents should be "babying" a 14 year old or atleast any decent parent! No one in their right mind would leave a 14 year old to their own devices. With attitudes like yours 12:17 no wonder kids are killing, taking drugs, having sex and turning into nonproductive useless adults.
If you have children please take a parenting class ASAP and if you don't have any yet get sterilized! The world does not need anymore parents who are complacent and lazy and who don't devote themselves 100% to their children.
This shows we need free public child care for new young moms giving them time to futher their education hanging out at the mall.
I find the attitudes of young people in general disturbing.Only in recent years have we heard of such atrocities inflicted on infants by their child parents.Lets hope this does'nt become a trend.
I am just so happy that I do not have any children, therefore will not have any grandchildren. What a world to bring them into.
