Most of the nation’s 2012 high school graduates aren’t ready for college, and their reading skills continue to steadily decline, hitting their lowest level in four decades, new data show.
Annual SAT results, released on Monday by the College Board, show that just 43 percent of college-bound students are prepared for the next level of their education and are likely to maintain a B-minus average or better during their first year of university classes. Fifty-seven percent didn’t clear the 1550 college and career readiness benchmark, the figures show.

Dumbing down of America, learn to live with it.
This is something that big global corportations, such as P&G for example, have known for a long time and that is why alot of management and upper management in these companies advance low level committed employees rather than go outside the organization and risk hiring recent college grads.
In this day and age where everyone has a degree something called "emotional intelligence" is more important than ever before and it will always trump a college degree which doesn't necessarily
mean someone is even "book smart" anymore.
I know some college grads that are not better - expecially when it comes to pacific subjects that they studied a wild ago...they don't even know how to axe the right questions...
But by golly, we've got their lunches restricted to 850 calories!
and their brains restricted too!
Turn off the T.V. and grab your kids and start reading with them, then do some math with them as well. It's a parent's job to teach their children.
TO 11:23. HOW CAN THE PARENTS TEACH OR READ WITH THEIR CHILDREN WHEN THE PARENTS CANNOT READ. THE SAME GOES FOR SIMPLE MATH.
The schools have been declining since integration was thrust upon us. However, don't worry, we'll just give the teachers another raise or two{they're so special} and throw a little more at the BOE around the country and it will all be resolved. Oh wait, we've been doing that and things just keep getting worse. Maybe we're not throwing enough money at it. Hell, let's give all those hard working teachers 200k a year and that will have to fix it. Government..don't you just love it!
This is the result of politicians saying a college education is a right as opposed to a privilege that the few who are serious and actually are learning are only entitled to. The results are evident. Getting a college degree does not result in getting a job nor a higher paying job. That's nothing but propaganda put forth by those who say it is a right.
The trademan are getting so few and far between anymore esp in places like Northern VA where I have a home that they (plumbers/electricians) are getting $150/hr and even upward whereas you can can a complete estate will done for peanuts anymore ($100) by a lawyer. The college grads are getting jobs in restaurants/retail as servers and sales clerks and are ticked because people who have worked there right out of high school with no degree have now after 4 or more years have advanced into management positions and they haven't.
