Misleading Headline In Today's Daily Times

Jennifer, I realize that you probably didn't select the headline, but "Wicomico County GOP committee protests Board of Education nominee" is not only false, but it's inconsistent with the story in the paper - as well as my comments when we talked. I repeatedly stated that we had no issue with Kim, but that we are upset about the process by which people are appointed to the Wicomico County Board of Education. Your story reflects those positions reasonably well; the headline absolutely does not.

Unfortunately using sensationalistic headlines to pull in readers is commonplace - and is frequently something the Times does, and that reflects poorly on journalism. It's a matter of concern in part because people who do not read past this headline will falsely conclude that our "protest" is what Republicans are really about.

Readers who actually read the article will understand part of the real issue: local control of education. However, anyone who skims the article will only remember the false premise of the headline. First impressions (the headline) can easily affect the reader's understanding of what follows.

This sort of pseudo-jounalism not only damages the reputation of the Daily Times, but it also functions as a disservice to the citizens supposedly served by the paper.

Chair, Wicomico County Republican Central Committee

Not only am I ticked about the article you refer too but on the Editorial page the title of the article regarding the FEMA grant states the Wicomico County votes it down. The Daily Times is just lame. A good friend use to refer to it as The Slime and I think that might be the best description.

Another classic example of the Daily Times' inability to adequately and factually report the news. In this instance it was clearly spelled out to the DT's that it was the process and not the nominee that was in question and they still managed to get it wrong.
It makes you wonder who is running the show over there.

They have no reputation. Everyone knows its' use. Lining bird cages and eating crabs on.

It is no longer considered a newspaper. It's more like a tabloid.

The news in this town is right here on this blog.

But you knew that. That's why you came here to complain about the daily slime.

You knew it would be read by most people and even by that so-called newspaper. Their writers routinely come here for story ideas and even copy news articles from here to put in that rag.

Good luck.

Another confirmation of the Daily Times political slant on things especially if they can publish bad press for repulicans.

Go, Dave. gannett corporate should get to the bottom of what is going on at the DT.

So, where's the new guy Gannett was sending to shape things up? Did Basset lock him in a closet?

Once again -- and let there be no doubt -- until they can Bassett and his cohorts the DT will continue to be dog-doo.

Someone please tell that wise guy that Gannett sent here to turn things around.
