Economists Say Maryland Needs Wind Energy, But Fracking More

Economists that political bickering should not overshadow that Maryland needs to find new solutions for its energy future. They say the state should consider a range of resources -- not just offshore wind and natural gas, but land-based wind, solar, geothermal and nuclear, too. The state currently imports about 30% of its electricity, making it the fourth largest energy importer in the U.S.. (Watch animation of fracking and see map of offshore wind.)

I have a proposal. When I wanted to start a business that would require a venture capitalist to put up the up front investment, he wanted to see a piece of paper called a "Business Plan". It's basically a spreadsheet that runs the firat 5 or 10 years of the company, or whatever time it would take to pay back the venture capitalist and then the profitibility of the company after that.

In that light, if the State wishes to use my money to try a new venture or five, I want the lawmakers to present me with the business plan for fracking, the one for offshore wind, the one for onshore wind, and the one for solar farms vs. crop farms. Maybe even one for hydroelectric at the mouth of the bay?

Then, us voters could have something to compare the costs of what we're currently doing with the new proposed technologies.

Or does that make too much sense?

I don't care if the frack near my house there is no danger at all. The claims that liberals came up with like damage to water wells was a proven hoax to stop yet another plan to lower fuel prices.
