Maryland Asks For Stay During Gun Permit Ruling Appeal

Maryland’s attorney general asked a federal judge Wednesday to keep the state's gun permit law in place while the state appeals his ruling that the law is unconstitutional.

In an order filed earlier this week, Judge Benson Everett Legg ruled that the Second Amendment right to bear arms is not limited to the home and Maryland's requirement that residents must show a "good and substantial reason" to carry a handgun is unconstitutional.

While the ruling is appealed, Maryland State Police, the agency that processes permit applications, will not make decisions on applications in which approval rests solely on that clause, said Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley.

What would happen if someone applied for such a permit and when asked for the reason why stated: "None of your business"

I wonder if such an application would be approved?

i read a statement that said the MD state police would not grant any permits that did not satisfy the good and substantial clause until after the appeal is settled. i'm sure they won't waste any time during a stay trying to find other ways to bypass our civil rights

For some reason the police do not want the good citizens in Baltimore to be able to defend themselves. The bad guys are all carrying. Could you imagine the bodies piling up if the good guys were carrying. There would more than likely be fewer bad guys just from the fear factor of possibly being shot.

Yes we must protect the criminals and keep the innocent public from protecting themselves when there are no police there to do so.

"f" the police. We don't need their PERMISSION to get our rights GUARANTEED by the Constituion and written in the blood of hundreds of thousands of people. Call a cop the next time there's a burglar in your house. They can't and won't be able to stop it, but they WILL file a complete and accurate report on how you died. And all you cops? Quit thinking that everyone is waiting for YOU to tell us it's okay to do ANYTHING. This country wasn't built on people who thought they needed approval from ANY government entity, much less from the ones who think they control us. LOL! Peaceful armed people ain't looking for any trouble. They aren't putting up with much of it either.

If you need someone to tell you it's okay to own or carry a gun, you don't need to do either.

You obviously don't know the law and are not responsible enough to make your own decisions.

The same ones that ALLOW you to own or carry a weapon are the sames ones YOU will allow to take them away.

Just because someone wears a badge does not mean they have your best interest at heart nor that they cannot be criminal.

Any cop can kill you and get away with it. Having a weapon just makes it harder for them. (But easier for them to justify shooting you).

I don't trust any cop further than I could throw one.

We have all seen and heard what cops do when their so-called 'authority' is challenged.

You want to put your life in their hands? No thanks.
