Car Strikes House Near Lewes

Resume:
Lewes, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a crash in which a car struck a house.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:52 a.m. this morning as an 81 year old male from Lewes was operating a 2010 Toyota Sienna westbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway (Rt. 9) when for an unknown reason, he began swerving into oncoming traffic. The Toyota then left the south side of the roadway before crossing back over Rt. 9 and off the north side of the roadway. The vehicle went between two houses in the Sussex West development before striking a residence located at 23 Whitehaven Way, west of Lewes.

The 81 year old victim, who was properly restrained and alone in the vehicle, was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Beebe hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s name will be released upon notification of his next of kin.

The residence was occupied at the time of the crash, although no one was injured.
